The only other more common issue these trucks have is the cam towers sometimes develop leaks and leak oil onto the exhaust manifolds and/or heat shields. It’s not an issue that would leave you stranded but I guess if it were leaking bad enough, it could catch fire but I’m guessing you would see...
I would base the decision on how much you anticipate being loaded down versus how much you will drive it unloaded. If it were me I'd go with the heavier spring.
I agree. I've seen those stamped arms bend real easy. They probably flex like crazy under load as well. As for the panhard bar, I've seen one break at the end but I've seen a few where the bracket broke away from the axle. Death wobble says to me that something is loose or broken. I'd go...
I don't really have many posts on Expo but I do on other forums along with build threads and such. It's definitely been a project (understatement) to restore all my photos on the forums. I've have some completed but not all. Photobucket sucks!!
Just added a TRDP to the fleet last month. Definitely going to add some extra reverse lighting like yours. Do you have those lights on a switch or are they wired into the reverse circuit? Are they isolated with a relay?
Ouch! At least your insurance is taking care of you. Now comes the hard part, picking a body shop that doesn't cut corners and does the job right from start to finish.
Simply amazing! I absolutely love this build. Really though, I love reading about all your builds. Very detailed, thank you. I have the 1GR in both runners and I'm a big fan of this little motor. The 1GR in the 2008 feels stronger though. I don't like how the later 1GRs are tuned.
Man, that sucks to see that. Are you going to get the dents repaired? There was some crazy weather around here this week as well but luckily not enough to damage anything.
I would like to know this as well. Although, both my 4runners have factory projectors, just would like to know if the pattern stays the same or not. I've ran HIDs in the past as well and while I do like the light output, HIDs are just too darn finicky for me. It always seemed that one or the...
I have a set of Auxbeam 7" LED off-road/driving lights that I need to sell. I ordered these without measuring and unfortunately they just won't work for me. They are brand new in the box, never been mounted, although I did hook one up to the battery to check the light output (it's pretty...
Congrats on both the retirement and new 4Runner! We like both of our 4runners. Not the best towing rigs but we make due for now. Sounds like your setup may push the limits of the 4runner though. I would definitely hold out for one without the sunroof. As any vehicle with a sunroof ages, it...
I had a 1992 ext. cab short bed Z71 that I really liked. Mine had the 5.7 and light duty 5-speed. I owned it for about 10 years and drove it a lot of places also worked on it and it went through different build stages. Some things I would look at if buying another truck like that are:
I would...
There's a 3rd gen Explorer (red and grey) by my mother in laws in Albuquerque that is lifted a little with bigger tires and at least a different rear bumper. It actually doesn't look half bad and it could probably go to some places without any issues. I believe the owner tows a small pop-up...

And this in case you need some help on the rear coils. http://www.toyota120.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23069
These actuators have always been an issue. Did yours have the thermo unit or the newer electric unit? I'm assuming that you replaced it with a new electric actuator but if you want something a little more reliable, I recommend these: http://4x4posi-lok.com/app_chevy-k.html
