I have 295/70/18 Ridge Grapplers on my Tundra and I still get 15 mpg. I was originally looking at Tacoma's but I don't care for the 3.5 v6 in them so I started looking at the Tundra again. I almost bought a Rock Warrior Tundra back in 2012 but I was amazed by the ecoboost f150 and bought that...
Definitely following this build since I really liked your tacoma!
As for the tires, I recommend looking into the Ridge Grappler from Nitto. The 35/12.50/18 or 20 has a Load Range F and a few of the other sizes that are Load Range E have a 4000 lb capacity. If it were mine, I'd go with some...
Congrats on the new rig! I'm totally jealous of your travel plans btw. That's something I've always wanted to do and should've done when I had the chance. Hopefully, after my kids graduate high school (only 12 or so short years away), I can break away and do a long trip like that.
Interesting snorkel on the side of that old car!
I really need to take some trips out there to explore. So cool to see that it’s not vandalized or picked apart yet.
Did you reset the ECM when you installed the factory airbox and plumbed in the snorkel? I'm wondering if it the air flow/temperature difference was too much between the snorkel and intake you have pictured. I would think you would have more issues with the hot air intake you have pictured than...
I can see why you would want to move that direction but I don't think I'd want to own a newer gen diesel, especially for back country exploring. Just so much to go wrong with them and leave you stranded. A buddy of mine was stranded on a dirt road with his 5th wheel trailer when his duramax...
You should be able to see the ABS code through TIS. If you don’t have it, find someone that does. I’m guessing a bad wheel sensor or intermittent short on one of the wires. They seem to be the most fragile wires on the entire vehicle. As for the pop, I would double check the LCA cam bolts. The...
Sounds like the LCA cams are slightly loose. Get under there with a torque wrench and retorque them. I would also mark them in case they do move again.
I completely agree with this advice.
I had Bilstein 5100's on my 4th gen for about 100k and went all over the SW on the crappiest roads. Then I upgraded to the 6112's and they are definitely better and keep up with anything I throw at them. I also have a 5th gen with Icons and they are even...
Thanks! As for the 5th gen vs Tundra, they are really completely different vehicles for different purposes. The 4Runner has a more polished fit and finish feel to it, yet the drivetrain feels a bit dated and the throttle and trans tuning make it feel slow. The Tundra feels and drives like a...
I would also recommend some aftermarket UCA's to help dial in your alignment. I've had good luck with SPC. I would also recommend some beefier rear control arms (at least the lower arms). I've had good luck with Rokmen LCA's for those.
It's been a while since I've been on here and I'm totally loving the new format! The old format didn't play nice with my work computer and sometimes with my ipad so I got where I didn't visit or contribute much. Somewhere along the way, I've also switched all my pics over to Smugmug from...
