Coyote; aka my 96 D1 5 speed build thread

Superwinch Tiger Shark 9500 The super winch EP9 that lived on the front bumper has been in the fight since 2007 on the previous Coyote and was starting to show its age. I've needed to service it/rebuild it (particularly the posts that hook the motor to the solenoid) for a bit but it had been a...

Coyote; aka my 96 D1 5 speed build thread

Tail end of the trip back to the U.S. found me down in NOVA vice the mountains because of things like Halloween with the kids and such so when jet lag woke me earlier than most I wandered out to take care of a couple of small things I'd been meaning to address. -oil change since I hadn't done...

Coyote; aka my 96 D1 5 speed build thread

Fortunate to get back to the U.S. for a work thing but still managed to sneak up to the mountains with kiddos for a day of amazing fall wheeling. Icing on the cake was scoring an HD D1 bumper that got slapped on in about ten min. It's the bolt on version that looks akin to the stock profile...

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

I'll hit you on pm, I was going to ask how your install went since I saw over on Dweb that you'd run the box and gotten the lights off. On the balance I'll take the red light if nothing is chiming nor scrolling. Did you pull the fuses for the air suspension too? I did that mainly b/c when I...

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

:) That was a bring back from the Embassy in Sri Lanka; here you can't get it b/c of the expiration date which turns into a hang up while importing. Locally I tend to have Guinness, Kilkenny...and that's about it. We do see some IPAs & then a full range of European stuff too.

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

More details and follow ups With all the pics in the previous update I needed a continuation: -LED interior lighting Discussed a little while ago, I replaced all the interior lighting with LEDs to cut back on current draw and there was some question if the light was too harsh/bright. What I...

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

Details & circle backs Been on the road a fair amount over the past few weeks including a little vacation in Sri Lanka which was great but had me dropping out of my own thread pretty much right after posting about the receiver hitch for the most part but Unseenone is really the expert with...

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

That's good info about the size being equivalent to jerry can's. As I dwell on the rear swing away, I may go with just the tire and keep it simple. I've still got some time before anything shows up from SA so its no real rush. My thoughts moving forward: -onboard water tank fab (3rd row seat...

    LR3 rock crawling carnage

Hmmm, I may need to look into this over here-the penchant for such vehicles is fairly high in this area. Sadly the dealership is sometimes less than helpful but it would make for an interesting excursion. *************** Follow up since I got bored/intrigued. This appears to indicate that...

Traxide dual battery kit (LR3/D3); any comments on which version?

For the sake of follow up, just finished placing the order for the 160 basic kit since I have most of the stuff in the back already wired in, I'll just move that wiring over to the Aux battery. As you mentioned, Tim is easy to work with and very responsive-and rightly pointed out that exchange...

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

I doubt I'll ever get rid of Coyote, she lives on at a much slower pace since I had to leave her with a friend who garages her in VA. Anytime I'm back in the U.S. thats what I drive, so as recently as a few weeks ago I fell in love with the simple robustness of the D1 all over again. When I...

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

The place I got my front bumper done in Dubai & I have chatted, they will likely fab up either a carrier or a bumper & carrier at a pretty good cost. I'm kinda waiting for their next frontrunner shipment though as I wanted to have them also install the aux fuel tank in the place of the spare...

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

Rhino Hitch A quick trip back to the U.S. to the see the kiddos also facilitated my retrieval of a hitch setup for the LR3 that I'd been dying to put on. The Rhino Hitch is SA manufactured, akin to the Mitchell Bros unit from AUS, & provides for a much lower profile setup than the OE plow...

    LR3 rock crawling carnage

I think many would say that the 70k truck starts out with a damn good suspension (EAS, or otherwise) and that the aftermarket support for Toyota may be trying to get their product line into the same ballpark as what Rover comes out of the factory with. I have never been impressed by stock...

    LR3 rock crawling carnage

Based off what I've read on various forums (UK, AUS, & a little SA stuff) it would seem that from an overlanding perspective the coil sprung S or base model is perfectly fine. What I've seen thus far on my coil converted truck lends to that viewpoint. This of course brings up the idea of...

Switching my life to "not Jeans". Can I get some recomendations for good NON JEANS

I'll jump in an say that I too am a huge fan of Kuhl pants. I also have a few pairs of Patagonia & Colombia pants that are excellent too. Prana also makes some nice, comfortable, pants. I have found that I don't like TNF. Also, perhaps somehwhat ironically I tend to stay away from 5.11...

    Why LR4 over L322

Several threads going on that discuss this; the D3/4 is usually cheaper to get into, cheaper to modify, and more utilitarian. Far more aftermarket support and the fact that a larger community is wheeling them means that when something goes wrong the support network (actual or virtual) is...

    Trasharoo, first impressions....

I had a similiar experience on my D1, I ended up cutting the straps and bolting buckles into the spare tire carrier for easier mounting and tensioning of the bag-a lot of effort but since I didn't want to leave it on 24/7 it was worth it to give it a quasi quick detach capability.
