They are transitioning to a collectible/ classic car, so the really clean ones are being snapped up. The difficulty with the RRC is finding clean, complete interiors. Those parts are hard to find. Mechanically, they are still easy enough to keep on the road. Just be sure to invest a little...

Exciting progress. Have you considered the rear quarter panel aux. fuel tank to keep the weight down? Have you identified where on your route you may need the extra range? With the 100 (ish) liter factory tank and a 300Tdi, the Discovery has impressive range.

Toyotas are significantly more reliable than other brands. I own them all and have the repair/service records to prove it. In fact, I would submit that a 200 series Land Cruiser is an order of magnitude more reliable than a Grand Cherokee. Every platform has its strengths and weaknesses. Jeeps...

Sounds like a perfect choice for you. Find a clean one, then the mechanicals are pretty easy to manage.

The Cherokee is a great vehicle, and certainly capable, but to declare it a better 4WD performer than a vehicle with long travel (KDSS), solid rear axle (with locker and A-Trac), larger tires (significantly), low range and body on frame is shocking at best. We have months driving both platforms...
