40+ Imported Defenders seized by Homeland Security Today (developing story)

Best of luck. A 1984 110 should be ok, you will just need to demonstrate documentation and other proof of legal import. This is a tough situation, I have several friends with questionable vehicles.

You had me at "Commercial Espresso Machine"! :) We are having an open house on August 30th. Come on up. Bruce should be here. http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/128773-2014-Overland-Journal-Open-House

    Honda Crosstour?

They look like a nice alternative to a Subaru Outback.

How do I condition an AGM battery?

Go with a CTEK charger. I have saved literally thousands of dollars in batteries with that one unit. They are pretty amazing and have a recondition mode and are designed specifically to work with AGM and LiIon batteries. I think Kurt carries them: http://cruiseroutfitters.com/

    FujiFilm XT-1: Ultimate Travel Camera?

That RX100 is wicked. I will look at that more. I had great luck with Olympus from 2008-2011, running a 4/3 E3 and a bunch of nice glass. For me, the XT-1 advantage is the EVF quality and the weather sealing. Otherwise, the OMD and Sony A7 are likely better choices.

    FujiFilm XT-1: Ultimate Travel Camera?

I have read the same, and it is a concern. I could shoot for days with the 1DX, even in -40. It does appear a battery grip is available, supporting a second battery and 700 frame life. Certainly kills a bit of the form factor, but would be worthwhile in the right conditions (like in a...

    FujiFilm XT-1: Ultimate Travel Camera?

Despite being a serious DSLR holdout, I am ready to pull the trigger on a comprehensive mirrorless system for travel on the motorcycle. As E7 wraps up, I am looking to a trans-Africa trip on a big moto, and the luxury of a 70 series with 1-ton of cargo capacity and volumous interior will be...

Expeditions 7: Two Years Around the World on all Seven Continents.

Ushuaia! Not many make the trip south in winter, as road conditions can be sketchy (or closed) due to snow when crossing the Andes. We were able to thread the needle and had a wonderful trip on our seventh continent. More details soon, once the team gets decompressed a bit and organizes the...

    Apple cancels Aperture

We have 750,000+ images in Aperture. The migration to lightroom and photoshop is an unfortunately daunting task, but necessary. There are some really nice features in lightroom now, including app access to the library. It is time.

What the 15" equivalent to the 235/85/16?

You can still find 33x10.50s R15s from some manufacturers. That would be the closest available size.

Top Gear (again) and the cinder hill

The LR4 was better in the cinders. Mild all terrains, IFS/IRS, high-revving 385HP V8, 6-speed close ratio automatic and good weight distribution. Even after Tanner drove the hill, one of the producers (with no experience) also drove the LR4 to the top. It is important to note that Overland...

Expeditions 7: Two Years Around the World on all Seven Continents.

For Antarctica, there are several factors that contribute to significant driving times. Primarily, it is the time, energy and exposure setting up a camp at -40. As a result, you drive for 18-24 hours straight, and then stop for 10-12 hours. You cook, make water, sleep, etc. Once on the plateau...

Expeditions 7: Two Years Around the World on all Seven Continents.

Whatever the pace, it beats sitting at home hammering on a keyboard ;) Some travelers meander, some like to pack the experiences in, some have other responsibilities that dictate a faster pace. The E7 pace works for the team, and we have had a blast! :)

Overland Journal Project Land Rover Discovery 4 (LR4)

The LR4 was the best in the cinders and on the staircase. In fact all of the trucks did the climb twice (for footage angles), and the LR4 cleaned the climb on the second run. Only truck to clean the climb. I attribute that to the independent suspension, wheelbase and those sticky Falkens

Overland Journal Project Land Rover Discovery 4 (LR4)

Total damage was minimal. Broken compressor mount on the water crossing (just one of the mounts. It didn't fall off) Larger tires popped the fender flares off. Fixed with new plastic clips Alignment adjustment New windshield from a rock chip These LR4s are tough. No notable damage at all, just...

    Best 'Aggressive AT' Tires?

The goal was to test popular all terrains. The ******** Cepek was at the more aggressive end, and was a last minute inclusion due to the non-arrival of the Nittos. Ultimately, its more aggressive nature did nothing to improve its performance in the attributes tested. As with every test, we simply...

    Best 'Aggressive AT' Tires?

All variables were tightly controlled, including load rating, psi, size, etc. this facility is designed exclusively for tire testing, and we even had access to a massive mud pit, rock crawling course, concrete slopes (dry and wet) etc. this is a different facility then what we just used for the...
