It currently has factory Mercedes purple springs. I do not have enough seat time to make a performance comment, but they take the weight of the winch and provide about 1" of lift.
I am fighting the intense desire for Hutchinsons
I wonder how the military will justify this as an alternative to NTVs. There are really good NTVs available here (and through local sourcing). The battlefield has pretty much become armored or NTVs like HiLux, etc. This looks like an expensive option that does not solve either criteria.
A compact, Unimog-based expedition camper can work in many environments. We have taken full-size EarthRoamers through Central America and crossed the Bushvield of Africa in a Unimog Unicat. Those trucks had significant limitations, but most situations were manageable, particularly when smaller...
First Drive
The shop noted a minor driveline vibration, so I wanted to check it out. My first chance to drive the G with the new motor. Starting it up, the truck is now so smooth and settled into a calm purr. The new motor mounts and driveline mounts greatly improved NVH. These guys are so...
He intends to drive it around the world (according to the article). That would be irresponsible and dangerous to him and his hosts. That is simply a fact, no sugar coating. Having circumnavigated the world three times, I can assure you that this vehicle would be extremely dangerous to operate...
It depends on the car and how much lift you want to run. There is also the advantage of being able to "force" a taller normal height for higher speed travel, particularly in rutted sandy terrain or smooth Jeep tracks with a taller center berm, etc.
We just took the LR4 to Moab for Easter Jeep Week, and took the day to drive a few local trails, including Hell's Revenge. Great time, and the Land Rover performed as expected. We will try to post a few more images, but here is a short video. We had a Rubicon 4-door along, and it struggled on...
It is a pretty wonderful truck. So happy to see a proper wagon with a diesel option.
Jeep also told me last week that sales are much higher than expected, and they will move nearly 15,000 units in the first year.
I would keep it as stock as possible, and only change the springs and shocks as needed to address load (rate). I also like the slight increase in ground clearance and then fit a +1 or +2 on the tire size. A 4Runner is ideal for adventure travel, usually only requiring a spring rate change due to...
Thanks guys. Interesting comment on the buffeting. I am having a heck of a time with buffeting on the BMW, but found the KTM fine in the lower position. How tall are you? (I am 6'1"). These bikes really seem to buffet more than expected.
We get a Stelvio in a matter of weeks. We will report...
Installed and fired. Every hose was replaced, even the ones deep behind the dash. They are going to drive the truck through next week, then I hope to have it back by Friday or early the next week. :wings:
