The LR4 — Crossing America Offroad with Tom Collins at the helm!

They are releasing updates a few weeks behind. It took them over a month. . . They also did not skip Nevada. In fact, the only section of the TAT they skipped was due to flooding and then fires in Oregon.

The LR4 — Crossing America Offroad with Tom Collins at the helm!

The team has arrived at the Pacific Ocean. As we were fortunate to have a team member along, we will be sure to recap the LR4's performance and any issue encountered. 5,000 miles of mostly dirt is a pretty cool accomplishment

The LR4 — Crossing America Offroad with Tom Collins at the helm!

They are bone stock trucks. Even the tires. They are being driven mostly by the media, which is worse than letting my grandmother drive them. . . In fact, that has been the most surprising revelation of my time in the media - there are only a few of them who know how to drive properly.

The LR4 — Crossing America Offroad with Tom Collins at the helm!

From my perspective, I applaud Land Rover for actually going out and doing a trip. Camping, flats, pin striping and stucks. They are actually working hard right now to find a way around the fires in Oregon and complete the route. Tom and his team are not just giving up and heading to the...

Current Wrangler to live-on until 2018?

The 4-cyl turbo diesel is pretty sweet, and frugal on fuel. I have never felt a lack of power appropriate to the vehicle.

    Anyone else frustrated with Apple/Mac?

We are relieved the new Mac Pro is only a few months away. Our primary design machine is from 2009, and is in need of a serious upgrade. I just hope the thing doesn't cost eight squillion dollars.

The LR4 — Crossing America Offroad with Tom Collins at the helm!

By our reports from the trip, at least 10 flats. The HD package should come with 18s or 17s. Not having an HD package was not the issue on this trip, the 19" wheels and 55 ratio tires was the issue. Even a 60 series tire is questionable. I am simply of the opinion that an HD package should...

The LR4 — Crossing America Offroad with Tom Collins at the helm!

Their new "stripper" version of the LR4 sold in ZA and AU has 18s. Thankfully.

I wish they had 17s, but even an 18" would be a huge improvement. Yeah, 18s are available pretty much everywhere now. What is funny - try to find a 15" tire at the local Discount Tire now :)

    LR4 Reliability

The diesel is a wonderful motor. Having driven both the V8 and the diesel, I would take the diesel any day. More than adequate performance, 40-50% better economy and longer service life. Having said that, the V8 really is an incredible motor. Even at nearly 7,000lbs, our LR4 flat moves when...

The LR4 — Crossing America Offroad with Tom Collins at the helm!

Correct. We have a team member with the adventure currently (Ray Hyland), and there are no support vehicles and there was no pre-scout. There have been no failures of note beyond tires. My hope is that LR recognizes that the HD package MUST have a 17 or 18" wheel package to be appropriate...

leaving the 80 series behind thinking about 95 discovery

I enjoy my 1995 5-Speed every time I drive it. These trucks have been figured out a long time ago by guys like Jack Quinlan and other on DWeb. Get the spares and keep up on service, then no big deal.
