Is Offroading in a SuperDuty Really That Bad?

Yeah... and at least on these Superduty trucks, 35's look downright small :ROFLMAO: I run the 285/75r18 Toyo AT as its the highest load index LT available. Quiet, smooth, and long wearing. Its also the most round and easiest to balance tire Ive ever ran.

Is Offroading in a SuperDuty Really That Bad?

They may mount "fine", but there is good reason why the tire MFG specifies wheel widths. Especially for a proper truck with a proper payload rating, that are designed to haul weight reliably/safely. Running a tire on a wheel outside the specified width puts far more strain on the sidewall...

Is Offroading in a SuperDuty Really That Bad?

It happens. A high GVW gasser F250 will have a decent payload rating. Even my "old" 2011 F250 6.2 gasser with a 9900lb GVWR had near 3500lbs of payload when stock. (y)

Flatbed build, clearance between truck and camper? Alaskan and 2018 Silverado

Ive fitted our flatbed very close. The cross-body box has less than an inch of clearance from the back of the cab. This cab however, tips forward at the belt line so the window is more like 1-3/4" to 2" from the box. The cabover, by design, is tight at the rack around 1-1/2" But completely...

Is Offroading in a SuperDuty Really That Bad?

Correct tire pressure is based primarily upon heat management. Variables that contribute are road speed, load, and pressure. Running a lower pressure will require either slower speed or lesser load, or a combination of the two. Keep tires from overheating and they will last

Is Offroading in a SuperDuty Really That Bad?

Gotta pay to play. They are heavy trucks, designed to haul heavy, with simple suspensions and stiff shocks. So yes, in anything near stock form, the ride quality is pretty bad. My work service truck is a Chevy. Its like driving a sofa compared to my personal Superduty.

Flatbed build, clearance between truck and camper? Alaskan and 2018 Silverado

There is no one-size-fits-all, but what you have is well too tight. What I suggest is that you load the camper with at least 4" of clearance between top of cab and underside of cabover, and flex the truck out to see what's what. Until then you will not know how tight of tolerances you can get...

Reasonable Internet service if you are not using Starlink?

We have been using a Solis hotspot for years for our travels. So long as there is a decent cellular signal, regardless of carrier, it will connect and provide wifi. A variety of plans, we use the pay per GB plan. We have had decent luck with it. And it does exactly as intended. Just keep in...

Huge price increase for GAIA Maps!

Strange. We have Gaia Premium and its about $55 per year as I recall. It has increased a bit over the years but nothing like this. Ours bills thru Outside. And to be clear, we have not received any price increase notice. What exactly is the Offroad hiking, that looks like it bills thru...

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

Some final fabrication done. The slightly "boat-sided" rocker/sliders fabbed up and in place. These will be bolted on, so just drill/tap needed. Windshield frame cleaning.... happy to see no corrosion to worry about. And final work to the custom rear quarters/corners. Nearly ready enough for...

Help me understand suspension and tires benfits on F350 w 2000lbs truck camper

Just be careful about running TOO much tire for your given weight. Big tires with a high load index, running at lower PSIs for the given weight can/will introduce handling/ride issues at speed that cannot be corrected by dampening. Running a high load index at lower pressures will do wonders for...

2020 Northstar Liberty - Expedition Truck Camper Build!

To be fair, there is no such thing as a menace "human-acclimatized" bear Any bear that is a menace by any metric is one that had been created by filthy humans. The campers that leave food and garbage out for bears to rummage thru. Once they have a taste for it, its game on. If people kept...

    Tire Pressure - Sprinter Van

Toyo has an inflation guide worth consulting. https://www.toyotires.com/media/pxcjubjs/application_of_load_inflation_tables_20200723.pdf For LT245/70-R17 it shows that even at only 35psi they are rated at 1690 lbs per tire. At 40PSI they are rated at 1855 lbs, 45PSI, 2010 lbs Personally, Id...

What are the better tent stakes for soft sand?

Similar to the grocery bag idea… We always have snow chains on board, and carry them in canvas bags with handles. They work great as anchors for canopys/shades. Either use as is and tie to the handles, or empty, use the chains themselves and/or fill bags with dirt/sand/whatever.
