    Utility Bed Trailer Project

Outstanding start. Looks very robust. I have been on the hunt for a service bed for a while. I have had to fight the urge to buy an entire truck several times. Looking forward to more pics.

    Civilizing an m1101

Would be interesting to see if that hub fits. If it does, why even mess with the backing plates? If I recall correctly, the issues is the width between the two bearings. Just time and $80 could answer :)

    Civilizing an m1101

Don't get your hopes up. You could have a hard time going to different hub patern due to the size of the bearings. Pleas post the parts of you get it to work though.

M101A2, Another home on wheels build thread

I cant tell from the pics but did you leave a spot for water to drain out of the outer tubes?

The sliding will scrape most paint off. Been meaning to try a rust neutralizer and then just WD40 on bare steel for stuff like this. I bet it is hard to get 4 independent telescoping extensions to be perfectly square. I would just embrace the slop, especially because you put the larger tubing...

Its interesting that they don't Huck bolt the frame as on the aluminum M1101/1102 military trailers. I have always thought welded aluminum trailers don't hold up as well as steel when it comes to stress etc. Would make me nervous spending 50K on a trailer then having issues with the frame...

How are all of the mechanical and electronic components accessed for repair/replacement when the inner hull is attached?

    disassembling an M101A2

It's much easier to work on them if you remove the bed. The frames are easy to move/roll around by hand as well.

    M1102 potential build W/ Jeep JK 2dr

The 1101/1102 series are great trailers if you want to use them pretty much as is, with a wheel (8 lug) and tire swap. You can lower them a few more inches by making a shorter axle spacer but that is about it. Tongue modifications can be done but are not as easy as on the 101 series. If you...

    Lets talk welders and tools

I would say no. You need some type of dedicated metal cutting tool.

All that measuring you did paid off. Looks like axle fits well. Are you planning to add shocks?

    Lets talk welders and tools

I have been eyeballing dry cut saws but am undecided if going with a horizontal band saw is a better route. Hard for me to wrap my mind around a high speed metal cutting chop saw for some reason.

    Portable Base HF Antenna

Thanks for the info. I like your set up ocean, pretty much what my end goal is. Working on a few other projects but hope to get this figured out before the end of the year.

Thank you. Look forward to watching your thread.

    M101A3 Tongue extension

I cut the tubing close and that pretty much seals it up. Don't think leaving it open will hurt anything.

    M101A3 Tongue extension

Looks good. May not be needed but my only suggestion is to add a collar to the end of the 2.5" square tubing.

Newb What military platform is the best starting point

The left one is a 105. Prob too large for an FJ. Close to 2700 lbs empty, maybe more with that top. Couplers on the 105 are pretty high. The right one, looks like a 101 flatbed and would make a good platform for a build.
