Probably not--it's about 3K miles of driving--but thanks for the segue opportunity . . .
Because SprinterFest sponsor Upscale Automotive did a bunch of work in the truck's early days, and because Paul Jensen did the interior, the XV-JP got invited to be in the vendor area (probably at Paul's...
You won't get any argument from me. However, a lot of a T1N's appalling ride can be fixed by swapping the cargo springs for the passenger springs. It's a night-and-day change, and while it doesn't make it any more off-road capable, it makes a lightly-loaded cargo van, especially with Konis, ride...
Let's keep this in perspective. It's a cargo van, meant, as mentioned, to carry 3K pounds of payload. Mercedes doesn't care about the articulation an off-roader might want to have, particularly if it came (as it probably would) at the cost of some highway stability. So while it may look like "a...
Thanks for the compliments, both about the truck and the graphics.
I'm a fortunate guy, in that if James Lombardo had known beforehand how complicated and time-consuming applying his design was going to be, he'd have never undertaken it. But he persevered, and I'm the winner for it...
Ummm . . . Yeah. You do know your fellow inmates, my friend. :sombrero:
Not totally chomping at the bit, though, given that my so-called "interim" T1N is turning out really well. So it doesn't appear that I'll be suffering much while waiting--and I need to at least partially amortize the...
We've got a video . . .
though it's almost too boring to post:

It does give you a chance to contemplate the lift, and the huge wheel well space that results.
Not a very special one. It's the Rosewill R-IC-1500, which I got through Newegg a couple years ago. (Rosewill is sort of Newegg's "house brand.") They were on sale, so I bought two, for about $50 each. We already had a $600 stand-alone induction cooktop, so we knew we liked induction's...
I've got a free minute here . . . ummm . . . looks like a 170" panel van that costs 38,980 British pounds is 45,170 pounds as a 4x4. That's a 6,190 pound increase, which is equivalent today to $10,280. But in the UK and the Euro countries, you'd have a value added tax of 20%, more or less...
If it makes it into Car and Driver . . .
. . . it must really be going to happen. Frabjous day.

The lift is cool, but I can't tell what it'll do in terms of allowing bigger tires. (Not that...
I highly recommend propane if you're going to be away from mains power for more than a day or two at a time, simply because no matter the size of your inverter, big current discharge rates are tough on your battery bank and shouldn't be a routine event. A bottle of propane will let you do an...
Not sure, Paul, but this cooktop, the same as the one we use at home, is a bit faster than the 15,000 BTU gas burner we have, and it's also a bit faster than a Zojirushi-style AC water boilers.
That one's simple to answer. As Paul Jensen mentioned, that "sofa" is first and foremost the bed...
There was one stranding in the seven years I owned this one (fuse block problem), and one stranding early in my ownership of my current one (failed O-rings letting air into the filter housing). The first instance, ironically, was when I'd loaned the truck and the loanees were camping in the...
We really don't have any disagreement. Remember that I am also fortunate enough to own this:
which is totally self-dependent, being solar/DC-powered and using propane for cooking and petrol for space heating. It does not have any of the "duplicate the home" appliances of our current Sprinter...
A fair question, but I've done this a lot and feel that there are still performance issues with 12 volt lighting and, especially, appliances. Certainly the microwave, water heater, space heating and induction cooktop are not candidates for DC; the use of AC for these tasks has eliminated the...
Nothing beats a van this size for the combination of fuel economy, decent performance and comfortable (and enough) space to live in over a long period. So I suspect it'd be in the running.
There is a high initial purchase price to deal with, but if you figure your living "cabin" is virtually...
I started an dead LS430 with the Antigravity XP-1 last week. Turn over instantly, and while I know it was no great feat to crank over that 4.3 liter, it was extremely cool to pull out the little brick and tiny cables and solve the problem instantly.
A pretty nice addition to the tool chest.
There are already a couple of other 4x4 Sprinter threads around ExPo, but it seems best to create a new thread for the factory Mercedes version which, after a decade of false starts, appears to actually be coming to North America next year.
The details are in this press announcement...
