GX 470 vs 3rd Gen Montero ..... or maybe 100 series Cruiser

You're right that the in-town mpgs for a Hundy aren't great, but what mid-2000s big, cushy 3-row SUV does significantly better? None that I know of. And you can get 17-19 on the highway, versus the EPA Highway rating of 16. That, in combination with a 26 gallon tank, gives you decent highway...

Freightliner crew for expo truck foundation?

Thanks for this post. Crew cabs on trucks this wide have an advantage as the rear seat can be replaced by a bunk that would be comfortable for most people, letting you have one fewer bed in the cabin. That also makes it more practical to have a removable cabin, since you would still have a place...

How many times can I kill the battery?

If you think you might have problems, you probably want to have a VRLA (valve-regulated lead-acid) battery, which for all practical moto purposes means a sealed AGM (absorbed glass mat) battery. A flooded cell battery can only be brought back from fully discharged a few times (and sometimes not...

    Spotted Sprinter SMB for sale

It's great to have a fan club, no matter how small and narrowly-focused. ;) Don't fear the mileage if you can verify regular maintenance. No records would be a significant problem, but when the in-line five is taken care of, it's a 300K engine. And the rest of the truck holds together pretty...

    Sportsmobile Sprinter 4x4

It's the same link, but not the same conversion. After the SportsVans converrsion became unavailable, the staff at the SprinterStore engineered their own conversion and spent a a year or so refining it in an NCV3. They are now converting trucks for customers. The link you cited now has...

    EarthRoamer XV-JP "Northwest Edition"

Mostly because it was easier plugging in the Sprinter to the shorepower pedestal (no need to plug in the Jeep), plus we knew we weren't going anywhere until both vehicles left for home.

FREE--PAY SHIPPING DRAWER SLIDES -- gone to new home

Too valuable to have them pitched. I'll take them if you can't find anyone closer (and since you'd have a hard time finding anyone farther away, we'll hope someone else steps up).

New Woelcke Fuso 4x4 Expedition vehicle "Autark"

This'll work fine . . . where should I send the money? Seriously, thank you both for the information. That's a nice rig and I hope I'll be overlanding in 25 years when the my government will let me import one. :(

    EarthRoamer XV-JP "Northwest Edition"

It seems better to me than the average awning, but a lot is going to depend on how it gets mounted. To wit: You probably want the awning with the poles under it not to droop downward. If the awning base is mounted higher than the extended poles, so that there is a downward pitch toward the...

    EarthRoamer XV-JP "Northwest Edition"

It's partly an optical illusion, but the combination of oversized, highly-farkled Wrangler with unadorned stock Sprinter makes the Jeep look about as big as the van.

INSTANT OVERLANDER: Mikey's Transitory Sprinter Camper

Not too far away . . . Woodinville, WA in the hands of GR8ADV of this forum. Ken gave it a bigger tent with a changing room and made a few other modifications to make it better for use with his family. Ken also mounted the RTT a little higher and got some useful additional room between the...

    EarthRoamer XV-JP "Northwest Edition"

Foxwing Deployment After some camping with Jeremy and his G-Wagen at a really pretty dispersed site in the Tillamook State Forest, I met up with the Sprinter at Champoeg State Park south of town. There, we ended up with about the last campsite which, while being less scenic, was plenty big...

INSTANT OVERLANDER: Mikey's Transitory Sprinter Camper

Dave, you old rattlesnake! What the heck are you doing around here? (For a guy with 8,500 posts, you've sure ain't had much to say lately.) :sombrero: Glad you like the color. Just another reason you need a Sprinter. ;)

INSTANT OVERLANDER: Mikey's Transitory Sprinter Camper

It cracks me up that Sprinters come in 22 colors, and in ten years, I've seen about five of them. I like the grey because it's not white, but it's perhaps too stealthy. I'm about ready to find some ex-hippie guy to airbrush a mermaid on the side, or something. ;)

    2008 Earthroamer XV-LT For Sale, Serial #95

At least I'm spreading them around more now. Five years ago, they came in without anything going away. Not sure what I was thinking then. (Guess I wanted to be prepared if six groups of overlanders simultaneously showed up to visit and had all forgotten their vehicles. :sombrero: )

    Awesome Unimog!

It's probably a nice truck (and I maintain everyone should own a Unimog once in their life), but if any ExPo member who's new to Unimogs gets serious about this, be sure to ask questions. We have several experienced Moggers who would be pleased to provide insights.

Seitz Windows 101: Pros, Cons and their Operation

I agree. It's fantastic to have the big hatch, but it is not a very sturdy thing. And because it can flex pretty easily, it's hard to keep everything sealed. If I had it to do over again, I might use the hatch on a rigid and dead flat surface like the roof of my old Mog cabin. I'd think long and...
