I agree that this isn't a good candidate for off-roading. 4x4 would however be nice for snowy mountain passes, slippery boat ramps, sandy or muddy camp spot turnouts etc.

I have both and say stick with what you already have. If you don't do your build out to a high finish level it will be easy to modify should you change directions. Interiors tend to evolve as you use them anyway.
A selectable locker like ARB is the way to go on a vehicle primarily driven on pavement. Open diff most of the time and spooled when you need extra traction.
I share this same sentiment but will add that I think the only locker that will fit a late model GM is an Eaton. There are no selectable locker applications that I have been able to find for the factory axle.
