I bought one on eBay but shipping to Kanukistan was cheaper buying direct. It works great after many years now and lots of trailing. Very flexible to get them out of the way for a passenger and yet comfy to see and get level for a small table. IIRC I paid about $40 US.
I used a piece of angle...

I hope to be in Bend on March 19 late and then start on the install on Saturday. If you want to join in there is plenty of space to camp nearby. I am staying with BlueHZT60 (Bob). Will send details in another email to you shortly. Also, check thread in OR section here on ExPo, as I am trying to...
Now that I have a somewhat more spacious 77 series, a lot of my gear is transferring to it....http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30648&highlight=pzj77
Bang on Michael! I use my 7800 in just that way. I leave the first memory slot in Bank 1 open and program all my other frequencies in the other banks/memory slots (over 1000 = 20 Banks at 50 memory slots each and then some) then I program the first memory slot with one frequency and input the...
Finally narrowed it down with respect to the suspension (OME HD Dakar with 75/76 hybrid leafs) and having a friend (BlueHZT60) picking it up for me. I am going to Bend, OR in March and we will install and then do some trailing.
Perhaps you (4Rescue) Dave, can join us, so email me as per profile...
As the FT7800R is no longer made, the FT7900R took its place and straight from Yaesu's site..."FT-7900R 2 Meter / 70 cm Dual Band FM Transceiver...The FT-7900R is ideal for the active Ham who has a need for simplex, repeater, or FM satellite operation on both bands"
Good to see you here, Brad. You'll find quite the difference (content and attitude) here compared to ExUT. Lots of good gear/tech (not the same as IH8Mud) talk here.
Absolutely correct! Good point.
Also, I use the AMDS programmer software to program all of the western half of N. America (yup, Mexico included) into my Yaesu FT7800R.
Dual band is a good thing. Allows you to monitor two frequencies at the same time. eg. if you and a buddy have joined a group of other travelers on some trails, you can pre-program the frequency the entire group is on and one other one just for the two of you. That way you can talk to each other...
Flying down to house/pet sit in Casa Grande from Jan 26 to Feb 7. Will give my wife a chance to check out S. AZ and see if she likes it enough to consider a home here for at least 6 months of the year or more. If you or anyone else are in the area email me and we can get together for a meal or...
Ya, headin' your way on 26th but doubt the border crossing/customs people will let me carry it on board or stow it with out a baggage charge. Seems everything on an airline costs these days. When I booked my tickets for D&I, there was even a seat charge of $1.00 for each direction/each person...
I think if one looked after any gear quite well (maintenance, storage, cleaning etc.) and likely any rig (domestic or import) they would all last much longer than we really needed or wanted them to last.
Thanks, you are absolutely right it is the mounting (using preexisting holes - visor mounting) that is difficult and getting the molding to fit nice in tight to the window side that is also an issue.
Thxs, Dave! Perfect...say why haven't I heard from you for so long. Sent tons of emails and posted on your User CP but nothing. Went through Flagstaff early December but since I didn't get an email from you I kept on going.
EDIT: seems that site is no longer in business...tried to email them...
David, here is some photos of the build of the bumper and if you search through (go back one level to photos) the fuel tank (Idaho Falls, ID) is there as well as other generation of rear bumpers (Tucson). Lucky you to go to OZ, I am still in the planning phase for the future.
