i didn't know the CrewMax even had a bed? J/K...... my sister has one and the back seats in it are better than sitting in a limo. It's about the only vehicle I've ever been in where the back seats have more legroom than the front.
Thank you. A rear locker would have been nice to have (had one on my old Xterra) but it was far from a deal breaker. I wanted a truck with a double cab configuration (for the dogs, didn't need or want a full crew cab) with true doors that open on their own (not suicide doors that force you to...
I find it interesting that the same qualities ("old", tried-true, proven reliability) that drew me (and many others) to purchase a Tundra for extended lifetime of use are both the same reasons why their seems to be so much anti-Tundra fanboy opinions on them as well as the exact reasons why...
I love my Tundra, wouldn't buy any other gas powered truck. When I was looking my #1 want was a truck with a proven reliability pedigree. I could care less for heated and cooled steering wheels, and 45 cup holders, and the most up to date fancy interior. I wanted a tried and true and tested...
I've seen a couple people with Hawks on CM's. They just leave the tailgate on. I don't think it's an optimal combination at all, but I don't think the truck will implode.

So now "we" are crapping on folks who are actually out there full time, doing this "overland" thing for reals? I don't know this couple (though I've taken interest in their new build as I have a Tundra and Hawk combo as well), but by all accounts they've put down over 80000 miles, traveling...
We have a Four Wheel Camper and have never regretted that choice yet. I don't know about the Hallmarks but the FWC's takes no more than 2 minutes to pop up. It depends on where you see yourself wanting to travel really. For me, I knew we wanted ot get far off-road, to go to those places where...
The Hawk is a great size for the 2 of us, and our 2 dogs. I know the "correct" size camper for the CM would be the Raven, but I've seen guys pit a Hawk on and leave the tailgate down. I knew the size camper I wanted first and picked the truck to accommodate it.

The ADS Racing stuff is most likely overkill for my application, but I had the funding available and wanted something to handle the hundreds of miles of washboard type roads we travel. I will be going to a true 35" tire next time. Just that little bit more rubber to play with. Power hasn't been...
You could get in touch with the couple that go by Bound For Nowhere (on IG and I imagine FB too) They just took delivery of a flatbed Hawk on a Tundra. They seem to be very educated long distance travelers so I guess they had some good reasoning f oh r their choice.
As far as my 2-bits, I have a...
Thanks. The trip was fantastic for sure. I'm running an MCM Fabrication mid-travel setup with ADS Racing shocks, and MCM Fab uca's. I have Dakar leaf packs in the bag with airbags. Running 295 tires in 18" rims (should have gone for 35"s,will do next time)

Bound For Nowhere just had a Tundra DC with a flatbed Hawk built for them. It looks very, very nice. I have the slide-in Hawk on my Tundr and love my combination, though I can certainly see the interest in the extra living room the flatbed provides. On our trip to Tuk last July (8500+km) we...
