Just checking in to report that not much is going on. Recently had my Icon coilovers rebuilt as they were making a clunk noise over bumps that required extension and compression in quick succession. Guy who rebuilt them said the oil level appeared to be okay, so I'm guessing the nitrogen...
Just an FYI, a guy in Thornton will do shock rebuilds and I'm sure could do the re-valve for you if you want to play a bit. Here is the thread he made over on Tacomaworld.

Certainly more reasonable than sending it back to ICON, but I...
I did do everything myself yes. It wasn't too bad to wrestle the leaf packs in and out of the truck, though I can certainly say I wouldn't have minded a second set of hands to assist in their removal and installation.
I am very happy with the change in behavior of the rear suspension now. I...
After a year and a half the rear suspension on my truck needed a bit of refreshing. The Dakar leaf pack was rusty, had settled a bit with all the weight, and the leafs would shift and make a creak noise. So I decided to rip it apart, do the D29XL add a leaf kit, and install the pinion angle...
The picture makes it look like any additional rotation and you will send the shackle into the mount. Perhaps the angle the picture is taken from is deceiving?
Damn dude, that's a difficult but somewhat fitting end for an expedition minded rig. Hopefully the experience hasn't diminished your passion for the pursuit. Best of luck with the new truck and I look forward to seeing it come to life!
What type of plywood are you/do you use? I'm not sure I've seen it mentioned. My default at this point is Baltic Birch as I keep hearing bad stories about less quality stuff delaminating. I'd hate to put in all of that hard work only to lose the piece over an additional $40 per sheet...
Yup. We were talking to the waitress at the Moab Diner and she said it's pretty crazy between the Easter Jeep Safari and Memorial Day and then from Labor Day through October. Outside of those time periods the weather is probably a bit of a deterrent for most folks. Oh well, I'll reaaaaally have...
So in what appears to be a now annual tradition, the wife and I took off for Moab, UT over the Memorial Day weekend. The plan was to hop in the truck on Friday and head west towards Gateway, CO. I had read about another all dirt route from CO to UT (did the Kokopelli Trail last year) and was...
Shafer switchbacks in Canyonlands National Park. Absolute blast to drive down.
Partial credit awarded! The White Rim Road officially begins a mile or so after the conclusion of the Shafer switchbacks. Still, good eye.
Looking good! I'll certainly be following along. Props to your wife for encouraging you not to settle for something you didn't really want (though the Taco and 4runner are fantastic vehicles).
The platform is done, installed, and we made great use of it this past weekend. I spent the last 2 weeks taking care of the last few details that included drilling the dowel connections for the front support pieces, gluing the aluminum edging on, finish sanding/buffing, painting the L-track...
