    What happened to the anorak?

Cabelas had some anoraks this past winter, both insulated and uninsulated. I don't care for them myself (I'd rather have more ventilation options) but my wife likes them.

    Alcan Limb Risers?

Thanks... I don't think we'll be doing much technical trail travel, considering I'll be pulling a 5th wheel toy hauler.. but I'm sad/glad Alaska is getting more accommodating to travel, I guess.

    Alcan Limb Risers?

Thanks, thats good to know. In looking at the geometry of my brush guard I'd have to install some sort of riser to get the attachment high enough that the cables wouldn't rub on the hood. So, no risers, I guess.

Siberian husky as a family dog?

Tasha (my last sibe) was an escape artist... I finally had to find her a new home when she learned that she could break out through closed windows (5 windows and 4 visits to Animal Control that week.....) Angel (my current sibe) likes nothing in the world more than chasing squirrels... I won't...

    Alcan Limb Risers?

The last time I drove the Alcan (1974), the conventional wisdom was to put some screen up in front of the windshield on some 2x4's bolted to the front bumper....mainly because most of the highway was gravel. Didn't seem to need it then, but I saw a lot of vehicles with them. These days the...

Siberian husky as a family dog?

It all depends on the dog. We currently have a Sibe, Angel....she's quite different in personality than the last Sibe we had....Angel is quite calm (for a Sibe), and very, very good around kids. My last sibe was quite a bit more hyper.. But, all Sibes need a LOT of exercise - a good hour's...

    Which Binoculars?

Practical Sailor (kind of like consumer reports, for boaters) did a survey...the West Marine brand scored quite highly. I have a pair of 7x50 in my truck, and they're as good as my Steiner 7x50s, but lighter (and a lot less expensive). Or, Swarovski, Kahles, Leopold, are good brands.

    Pelican 1550 tool box

Kind of how I feel about it.... for that much money, I would hope the Mr. Coffee comes standard. Or a cappuccino machine.

    Walky Talkies for trails?

Some people want the short version, some want the long. Kind of a Mounds/Almond Joy situation. The FRS radios are about $20 each. Buy a couple (they're REALLY handy for all sorts of things, imho) and try them. If they work, then worry about the things that make them better - rechargeable...

    Walky Talkies for trails?

Excessive complications for the purpose of the test determining the suitability of FRS radios for the communications requirements specified. If FRS radios are found to be suitable, phase IIa is recommended to include acquisition of rechargeable power cells, belt cases, and other accoutrement'...

    Walky Talkies for trails?

Go to Costco, Bestbuy, Target, Sears or any other emporium of your choice. Purchase a sufficient number of Motorola FRS radios to test (probably at least two). Don't forget some AA batteries. Test. Let us know how they work for you. If needed, we will be glad to tell you what to do next :)

    7.3 vs. 6.0 vs. gas

My 2002 Excursion with the 7.3 gets 18 MPG, up hill, down hill, stop and go, freeway, pulling a 8K trailer or not.... My 2009 6.4 F350 gets between 14 and 17 MPG, depending... Towing the 14K 5th-wheel toy hauler it gets around 14-15. Unfortunately, I've had the cab off twice for maintenance...
