    Good moon shots this weekend

Here's an "unchopped" version. The one I posted earlier was probably around 20% cropped.

    Snow Peak Addiction

I'm a big fan of the Snow Peak chimney for getting the coals started. 2 pieces of newspaper twisted moderately tight and then light them. Silent (I have that torch too, but it's like a jet engine) and efficient. It gives me about 15 minutes to prep food or kick back and enjoy a beer while you...

    Good moon shots this weekend

The view on a mostly clear night in east Plano. Unfortunately, I had to wait a little until the moon rose just a bit higher above the horizon. Nikon D300 AF-S 600mm VR + 1.7 teleconverter (effective focal length=1530mm) ISO: 800 1/1250 at F/8

    Feeler: Nikkor 300 2.8 D AF-S + TC-14E

Don't rule out the 300mm f/4 AF-S. These are a bargain new or used. That's a lot of lens in a compact package. I really like the built-in lens hood that deploys in less than a second with just a twist to lock it in place. That's what I've been using for the last several years.

    Photographers Challenge: Classic Kit

Nikon F5 Arguably the best 35mm SLR film camera ever made. This might not be the classic kit associated with a Kelly Kettle or an FJ40, but this camera has been used all over the world by photojournalists and nature photographers. As I'm contemplating selling this to help fund the...

    Istalling Synthetic Winch Line

That's how mine is secured. I also made sure to spool it under some tension to take out any stretch in the line; I did this after pulling several wraps taut.

    Keen Quality??

I guess I've been lucky so far. I have 3 pairs of their sandals, one pair of street shoes, and a pair of trail shoes. I've been happy with all 5 pairs so far.
