if you pick up a 2wd toy trans it may fit with a super short jack shaft to the samurai tcase.
The adapter plates are only the beginning for a swap. the diesel swap entails a new rad, exhaust, etc.
the 1.6 swap you can use the sammy rad and the 1.3 exhaust. but if you want efi you have to do...
My sammy has the 1.6 TBI in it. yes it makes more power than the 1.3 but its less than stellar. I can do 60-70 mph down the hiway until I hit a hill! :D My buddy has almost the exact samurai as mine but the 16V(a low mileage one to boot) and his flys. I may rebuild mine but a VW 1.6TD is in the...
what alot of off road guys up here did was weld a piece of 1/4" round bar to the inside of the lip. rolled previously of course. I have had steel wheels on all my rigs and never needed axtra lip protection. i have bent a lip over but it hammered out pretty quick.
the thing I don't understand is why ford did not bring the 4 door ranger to NA. Instead we get the sport trac! Can't they see how well the tacoma, frontier and colorado 4 doors have done?
I would love to build a 70's era 4 door ford! I had my eyes on a '79 f350 in really nice shape but it sold before i could get the cash.
FAST make a bolt on super simple EFI system http://www.fuelairspark.com/ezefi/default.asp
I have no idea on price but for what you want it would sure make it...
I have a '99 f150 extra cab 5.4 and it has 4 wheel discs. For the tranny you can get a plug in module that hardens up the shifts and solves some of those problems. Its next on my list. ANY ford truck you get changes the spark plugs and take care doing it. Mine ran amazingly better after new...
yes grab everything, steering linkage, brake lines, driveshaft, springs if you want. Not that you will need everyhting but if you got a broken bracket who knows what else needs replacing!
start callign auto wreckers. alot of trucks around that age have low miles and end up in cab crushing accidents but the motors etc are fine. That is what I would drop in or have it rebuilt by a powerstroke specialist.
You can get a rear driveline disconnect from some towing vendors or trailtough sells one more robust.
The problem with putting the tcase in neutral to tow is it ties the front and rear driveshafts together and spins the front diff as well. I have seen on several occassions where the front diff...
they are great rigs. I have had a few and the last one was a 4 door with calmini 3" susp. and 3" body lift on 31's with rear locker and other crap. it went lots of places. I eventually wanted to go bigger as I constantly dragged the belly and tore crap off underneath even with a skidplate!
I...
make sure you investigate closely. It probably has the 2LTE engine in it which I wouldn't touch. tHey had overheating problems and crack heads alot. Some people have put the 3L head on and it kind of makes it better but I doubt thats the case in AZ! They overheat up here in BC!
Just so you know.
I don't own it anymore but it had a lockrite in the back. I sold it when we bought our XL& and bought a LWB samurai as a play toy and now it will be my short expedition vehicle with my son. Longer trips will be in our F150.
I wouldn't have a problem with using a fly evertime. The ONLY time I set a tent up around here without a fly is dead mid summer with full clear sky. in the PNW a rain can come anytime so a fly is std. equipment.
That looks familiar! :D mine with the 30" tires and a locker in the back was simply amazing in the snow. I could go places rigs with dual lockers and much bigger tires could go.
I will post a pic of my LWB samurai this weekend and its finished and I am driving it now.
I've seen two of the trailer spindle types break off. After looking at the way they were mounted and secured alot had to do with no true support for the free end of the gate. All they used was the draw latch to pull the tire carrier down to the bumper. This stresses the hinge ALL the time. I am...
