If I were weighing the two vehicles that would be a main factor. I would love to have the room and load capacity of a Tundra. However, here in the southeast, the Tundra would be a VERY tight fit on most of the trails we frequent. It could make it, but it would get very banged up in the process.
I have one for sale dude. PM me.
Also, some 2nd Gens were two doors. I wonder if the seats came forward a little more on those? I LOVE second Gen seats. I am looking for some to replace my 60/40 bench.

I am going through my truck right now and will be rebuilding my idler arm as well replacing control arm bushings. The idler arm can be rebuilt for less than $10.
Also check out your locking hubs. They may need a rebuild as well, mine sure did.
We definitely had issues with the 7.3's as well. But most of them had 300,000+ miles on them. The 6.0's we have give us problems from day one. That is the only real world knowledge I have of them though, I have never personally owned either.
If it were me in his position, I would leave the suspension stock ( the IFS is actually very tough in stock form). If he doesn't have manual locking hubs I would get them. Then look into a ratchet style locker for the rear and a higher clearance crossmember (the only one I have experience with...
The 5.4 will blow out the plugs too, as Im sure you know. Thats why I no longer own an F250. If I had went with a 7.3 I would probably still be building.
X2 on checking out Ujoint. If anything he would have some great insight.

I ran a 93 4runner with stock suspension, 32's, and a lockright in the rear and it was unstoppable.
The T-case crossmember does hang very low on these trucks. A friend of mine fabbed up a new one that was pretty even with the frame. It helped out his clearance a TON. I would like to do the...
A stock 3rd Gen Pickup is very capable out of the box. It can clear 32's fine without any lift. If he is dead set on lifting the truck though a cheap way to go is a set of BJ spacers from 4crawler and either a small shackle or an add a leaf in the rear...
The V10 has issues with the spark plugs like the 5.3. The threads are either too many or too little depending on what year. It will either spit your plug out like a rocket or it will get stuck in there.
We use the E450 with 6.0 on our ambulances and they are the worst vehicles we have ever...
I dont see how it works. I am sure its just because my mind isnt getting it. If you are spooling the winch in then the vehicle would seem to have to move forward on the winch line regardless of how many snatch blocks are on the rear.
If the winch line were moving directly to the side, instead...
I dont have a clue but I have never wanted to go higher than a 1" lift shackle. That equals a 2" longer shackle. A 2" lift shackle would equal a 4" longer shackle which has always seemed really big to me. I worry more about side to side instability and inversion with a shackle that length.
I was speaking of the US. I wish I could find the name of the importer in NY. It appeared that he specialized more so in things like exotic sports cars that we cant get here. Everything was very pricey.
