    Autohome no customer service

Wait, have you contacted Autohome US? The actual stateside distributor?

    Food storage for long trips

I see a lot of focus on stretching the time you get with your cooler, but the other thing to look at is foods that don't require refrigeration. There's a whole thread in the Overland Chef section on this. Canned, shelf-stable, etc. are all important to look at. I have a fridge and I still...

    Autohome no customer service

I can say that I've had nothing but fantastic customer service from Autohome US. I do know that they're busy folks, probably doubly so with the run up to Overland Expo, but I've never had any serious issues getting in contact with them. Are you using phone, email, or what? I've had good luck...

    4wd Astro "Patches"

I made reflectix window covers for my Astro as a last-minute fix right before I left for the 2011 Overland Expo. Worked so well that I ended up using them until just a couple of months ago, when I finally finished putting in curtains...

    5 person kitchen kit??

We're a family of three, but we've eventually ended up with 5 of most things - I went with singles from REI. I found that I always ended up using at least one extra plate for serving (or storing cooked stuff off the grill, etc.) and at least one bowl for mise en place or serving (or dips...

"Carro de Perro" Chevy Express AWD build

I added one to the front of my Astro for recovery purposes. So far, I haven't had to recover from it, but I feel better knowing it's there. It doesn't sit any lower than any other part of the bumper, but does stick slightly forward (I don't normally leave the shackle block installed). I've...

    EarthRoamer XV-JP "Northwest Edition"

I've spent my money on making sure I have 12vdc chargers/adapters for all my electronics (including the laptop), rather than the inverter. Been very happy to leave it out.

    Headroom overyour platform mattress

As stated, it sort of depends on your height. When I was starting to sweat this for my van build, I just sat against a wall and make a chalk mark for the top of my head. Measure floor to the mark, and that was sort of my minimum headroom.

Need Advice for a DSLR camera for a travel blog

This topic made me do a complete 360° (or at least 270°) turn. We've had a really nice Nikon D90 body for several years, and we've accumulated (by purchase and inheritance) a wide collection of lens glass to go with it. Lately though, I've been sticking to just using my phone for my adventure...

Tembo Tusk Scottle Recipes, Tips and Tricks

OK, I've had the skottle on my wishlist forever, but the family hasn't taken the hint, so I may purchase on my own, since I think it would be a nice "multi-role" setup for our upcoming trip. I do have an "operating" question for those who use it frequently, though: It seems a lot of folks are...

Would a Shipping Container Build Be Possible?

For starters, a steel shipping container will be heavy (bad) and will need more than a normal amount of insulation (more weight, bad), and so I would imagine would not contribute to good manners off road. Aside from being a premade box, I'm not sure it offers many advantages over just building...

    Herbie's Chevy Astrolander/ZMB Build Thread

Yes, I'd say with cables or the Pelican lid stay kit, this would be just fine. In my case, it would be a bit low to use for say, kitchen prep work, but I may still add the kit just to have a flat surface to put things on if I find that I need it while rummaging around in the box. I almost...

Rear-Mounted Pelican Case Thanks Mike. As I follow up, I took your advice and mounted a Pelican Storm iM2720 on my driver's side rack. I'm very pleased, and I will load it with the same kind of stuff. Cheers.

    Herbie's Chevy Astrolander/ZMB Build Thread

Update: Rear Door Box Time for a small update. This summer, we'll be taking our first long trip - 10 days of mixed travel. Some camping, some not, but unlike our previous long trips, we'll be moving almost every day, so being able to make and break camp and reload the vehicle needs to be...

    Cast iron griddle

I use this one from Lodge and found it to be an ALMOST perfect fit for my two-burner coleman, but found that it fouled slightly on the wind shields. Since I didn't need two "loops", I used a grinder to knock one of the corner loops off and that made just enough extra clearance that the griddle...
