Agree with Safado and others - no differences between boys and girls at that age. Heck, in the sub-3 crowd, most are still in diapers either way. Here's our 2-year old girl at the recent SoCal Desert Rendezvous:
Mike, I wouldn't give up just yet. Seeing a lot of competing information here - some of it contradictory. The big sticking point seems to be about doing things "for hire", which is why you so often see "NOT FOR HIRE" on the side and backs of large trucks that are obviously for personal use...
If T.Low didn't, I did. I'm still running AWD and I have ~30" tires now. I was very aired down when I was in loose silt, but if there was any bogging, it's only because I was in really deep stuff (like past the hubs). FWIW, overall tire diameter won't affect the transfer case performance that...
Aaron can correct me if I'm remembering wrong, but I think there's a 1-wire change needed even with the manual t-case on the newer vans. Those with speed sensors, etc. get tripped up when they see the input/output speeds change when in 4Lo, and won't come out of 1st or 2nd gear, I think. The...
That's the trailhead (A, on the below map) where Split Mountain road ends at the Gypsum Mine at the edge of Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Following the "road" east, you transition onto BLM land. We camped near the 2nd trestle (B)

Having just returned from the SoCal Desert Rendezvous, I can say with certainty that the stock electronic AWD transfer case in a 2003 van will handle deep silt, dirt roads, and washboards just fine. Aired down and just cruised. Only felt it feel like it was getting caught up a couple of times...
I'm partial to the old Boy Scout recipe:
2 (30 oz.) cans sliced peaches; drained and reserved
1 yellow cake mix; dry
1 can Sprite or 7Up
Into a 12" Dutch oven add peaches and spread out. Pour cake mix over peaches then pour the soda over the cake mix. Stir to mix completely. Place lid on...
New Shots
Well, I had the kite rig out at the SoCal Desert Rendezvous this past weekend and it has re-ignited some interest, so I've been sending people to this thread again. Might as well post a few updated images:
This was a very gusty day, so I was having trouble getting the main...
Shot with a $50 craigslist camera running CHDK hanging from a 14sqft sled kite. A few details here.
Usually I get better altitude, but the wind was gusty that day, so I wasn't able to keep the sled climbing up enough to pull the rig higher than 20 ft or so.
Nice shots, Tom!
How did Olivia handle the trip? We just did another camping weekend with Annika and she did mostly great, but I do think 2-3 days is sort of our limit right now until she's a bit older.
New Photos of the Astrolander
I realized I haven't posted pics of my van in forever. Time for a few shots from the ExPo SoCal Desert Rendezvous this past weekend:
Airing down prior to tackling the silt tracks (some hard-packed dirt and washboard road, but lots of deep silt ruts too - momentum...
Don't listen to him. I like the Safari grill and headlight buckets, at least. I have the same from my donor safari still sitting in my garage, I consider swapping every now and then...
Wow, this is the first I've heard of that. Pretty nifty.
Quick question: From the pics it looks like this doesn't recirculate the heated air - just draws in cold air and heats it, right? I imagine this is a bit less efficient than a model that recirculates the interior air? (Not that it's a...
I have to object to your terminology. Your description is perfectly accurate - there is a hardcore group of people (I wouldn't even say it was a small group) who believe that anything digital should be freely copiable, shared, exchanged etc. However, the people you describe are most definitely...
Here's my "Trailhead Approach Vehicle":
2002 WRX-Outback - "Frankenstein's Wagon"
Small lift from 2004 Outback Sport springs.
2006 WRX-TR 4-pot/2-pot brakes
STi Seats and trim bits
I've run various oversized M+S tires and taken it a variety of places I was promised only 4x4 trucks could...
