I don't need a ton, but I do need a few.
Astro vans have more than a few tight corners, so there are several places where a normal socket won't grab the fastener and there isn't room to come at it from the side with a wrench. Believe me, I tried going without for as long as I could, but after...
Check the 4x4 camper van section below, there are a couple of RoadTreks and or Pleasure Ways in there, and several other vehicles of similar nature.

Curious as to what you see as the weak-points of the Impreza? I've been running a (very) mildly lifted WRX Wagon for several years now. So far, the only real problems I have stem from 13+ year old rubber - namely vacuum and water lines starting to perish.
Can't disagree with you on mileage...
Yeah, I think this is the way I'm going. I'll cut down a couple of the metal strips for now since they're going unused, but I'm eyeballing the locking ones the next time I have money to spend on tools. Zippered pouches fits with the way I like to store my tools - small discrete containers...
There's an idea with merit. I'm also looking at these because I like the idea of a twist-to-lock, so the sockets are less likely to separate. The shorties are nice, but it'd be cheapest to get a long one or two and cut 'em, as you suggest.
In either case, I'd probably be back to having either...
So I've been slowly building up my in-vehicle toolkit. I started with a few of my good tools and a few of my cheap tools, and I've been swapping things around as I learn what I need. My best method for figuring that out is to ONLY use my in-vehicle kit to work on the van. If I end up having...
Reread my post: "even if you're willing to build a custom cable, you can't have a semi-permanent setup where you can have expended storage without running on battery."
The issue is not the cabling. The issue is that switching the USB port to HOST mode changes the power pins from inputs to...
Just a crucial point: I'm normally a huge fan of the Nexus products (I'm on my 3rd Nexus phone), but I don't think they're the right choice for this application.
Whenever anyone mentions the lack of external storage, the next sentence is usually that you can use USB OTG to plug in a USB stick...
No, with this transfer case I now have 2Hi, 4 Hi, and 4 low.
For me the main motivation was to be able to slow down off road. Not being built for ultimate wheeling, I'm looking forward to being able to take it a bit slower over the worst "roads" without having to ride the brake with my left...
Is it something I could order through AT? If I can get some basic dimensions, I should be able to know about fit well enough to prepay for an order...

A couple of notes:
1) Regarding bench seating (perpendicular to travel) - I wouldn't make that choice for safety reasons. Seatbelts are really designed for and work best for the forward-facing scenario. Imagine a couple of kids sitting on a bench knocking heads in a front-end collision...
4x4 Conversion Done!
Well, after WAAAAAY too long, I finally have an update to post.
I have finally finished my 4x4 conversion with a 2-speed transfer case. NP233 converted to cable shift.
I bought all the parts as a complete "kit" from a pioneering ASV member who'd done all the hard work...
Hrm. Now you've got me wondering if a trasharoo will fit around my lower dutch door. The regular straps would certainly be long enough, it's just the clearance at top and bottom of door vs. body work and upper door that I need to sweat...
Another thought: Maybe for the "portable tank" solution, I could even make a carrying rack to keep a 5lb tank in the same spot under the van I wanted to hard-mount a tank.
I know I'd need to pull it out to use the tank vertically, but it's at the curb-side of the van, right under the sliding...
So I've started thinking about mounting a propane tank again. Lots of reasons, including being able to hard mount a Propex furnace, but here's the wrinkle: It looks like Manchester Tank is no longer making the smallest diameter horizontal tanks? (Or at least they've stopped listing it on their...
Check my build thread: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=727521
I used the Discount Van Truck swivel, but had to do some extra work to make everything perfect. In my opinion, a certain amount of metal work will be needed for any solution that doesn't include a replacement...
