    Easy Peasy Recipeasies

One of my go-tos after a long day of hiking, etc. is my interpretation of a pilaf that Ara prepared during one of his classes at Overland Expo 2011. http://herbie-eats.blogspot.com/2012/04/cajun-salmon-and-pilaf-la-ara.html It's a one-pan meal, can be prepped entirely on-site, requires...

Thinking of switching from dual fuel to propane.

Here are my additional criteria that caused me to make a couple of switches in my cooking system: * Easy re-light - I do a lot of meals where I need to use the burner for a while, then off, then re-light to cook something else. I found that white gas did not re-light cleanly. I always ended up...

    $40 BaoFeng UV-5R Dual-Band Handhelds

Check out the comparisons for this radio to the UV-82. For the extra couple of bucks, I thought it was worth it for slightly better antenna and squelch performance. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

    Post up your drawer/storage system

Anything to keep the drawers closed? (other than the tailgate)

    Bogert safe jack, bottle jack

This one is near the top of my to-do list too, especially since stock scissor jack won't work post-lift. Have already modified the quarter panel jack location to hold my bottle jack, but a few of these will round things out nicely... Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

    Manual sink faucet pumps

Sorry to revive a zombie thread, but this looks to be the most recent source of info on the subject. Does anybody know if any of these pumps could easily be mounted on a vertical surface, instead of a counter top? (i.e. will the faucet swivel around, etc.) I want to go simple hand-pump for my...

How do you store your (deep) sockets?

Well, I'm glad I sorted this out when I did. Had a minor mechanical issue at the Desert Rendezvous this weekend. Among the tools I needed to use to (finish) removing the dragging rear shock, then replace it back in town, was my 19mm deep socket. I ended up using the Home Depot document...

    Painless dual battery kit

No, I bought a pair of breakers so I could fuse both ends of the cable run (since a short in the middle could affect both batteries). They're "bussman" brand, off the shelf from autozone, iirc. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Tin Top Pop Top Samurai Build

Wait, how long is a Samurai roof? I wouldn't guess it'd be long enough for a bed without a bit of cab-over (similar to the Flip-pac shortbed cabover)

Astro interest... which vintage do you prefer?

When I built the new seat riser to accommodate the swivel in my van, I specifically shifted the passenger seat aft a couple of inches. Since the passenger footbox is "tapered", those couple of inches make a HUGE difference...

Astro interest... which vintage do you prefer?

A couple. Yeah, the 2003+ are definitely the best of the breed, but there are only so many out there. And that might be a matter of timing - when I was looking for mine, I found scant few AWD on offer in our area. I ended up going to Tuscon to pick up mine. Curiously nearly every van I saw...

Astro interest... which vintage do you prefer?

You can spend a lot of time worrying about configurations and RPO options, but ultimately, I think the biggest factor is going to be condition and mileage. Remember that the very newest Astro you can buy now is going to be 9 years old already. Obviously if you're wanting AWD or 4WD, start with...

    Stainless Steel Plates

Just a note: I've had a couple sets of metal plates, and I'm actually switching back to plastic. Not as sexy, but also better thermal behavior. Got tired of plates too hot to hold that then suck all the heat out of food! Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Please, need help setting up a solar system with batteries and inverter, etc.

I wanted to say the same thing. Those wires are NOT big enough to connect to a battery, IMHO. I used #2 jumper cable with the clamps cut off...

    Window screens...

Cool. I use the "Skeeter Beaters" on our van: http://theskeeterbeater.com/ Magnetic attachment around the door frame, stores in a little cinch bag in the driver's door map pocket when not in use.

Trash hauling without an exterior tire carrier?

My roof rack is nearly 8' off the ground. Standing on my back bumper, I can basically reach the rear end of my rack to pull long lightweight items on and off, but managing anything floppy, heavy, etc. is a real pain.
