    Expedition Squared build

Took my Expedition on a little expedition. I've been wanting to do the Alpine Loop in SW Colorado for awhile. It's a "scenic byway" that is mostly dirt roads. 4wd is recommended, but I really only used 4lo for the gearing help while going up long, steep sections at high altitude. High clearance...

    Expedition Squared build

Some say ignorance is bliss. But since I have my UltraGauge displaying transmission temp, I get worried when I see trans temps above 200- or really anything above 150 since I don't tow. It's not uncommon to see trans temps above 190 in stop-n-go traffic in the summer. And this is after I...

    2008 Ford Explorer comments please

The 4.6 in the Explorer is the same as the 4.6/5.4 in your Expedition. If you hated changing those plugs, imagine doing the same in a smaller engine bay...... The rear suspension in the Explorer is independent. And the geniuses at Ford decided to run the axles through a hole in the frame. This...

Introduction and stock rig trip advice

Agree. Moab is an oven. Alpine Loop has awesome views and history.

My new (to me) 1988 Chevrolet K5 Blazer.

I just installed this monster in my 5.4 Expedition. Just took it on a trip through the mountains. Never saw anything above 175 and it quickly came down. The previous cooler I saw temps over 210 under similar conditions. The big cooler is the same cooler used in the 6.0l powerstrokes.

That is a great looking square body- and I ain't talking about your wife.

Lets see some full size pictures...

Did the Alpine Loop and Black Bear the other day: The smoke from the fires wasn't an issue on the Alpine Loop. Black Bear was shrouded in smoke. When we got into town, ash was falling from the sky and the sun was pretty dim in the sky.

    Classic Bronco?

I hear what you're saying about the AC, and I just got back from a trip around the Alpine Loop and Black Bear Pass where the interior of my Expedition got filthy, but I couldn't imagine doing the trails with my windows up and AC on. On the highway- the AC got used, but on the trail the windows...

Introduction and stock rig trip advice

Look into a trail called The Rim Rocker. Nothing extreme but it connects Montrose to Moab using a bunch of dirt roads/trails. You can pick it up in many different areas where it crosses paved roads. If it’s dry, a stock vehicle is plenty capable. If it’s muddy, it’ll be a lot more “fun”. But...

    Project White Girl

That rear bumper turned out really nice. I just did the exact same thing with my Expedition.

    1997 Explorer Build

My steering uses a 1995 F-150 4wd steering box. It's mounted to the frame using a custom plate. Body lift if you stay TT and shackle (you almost have to in order clear 33s- I still had to trim some with a 2" body lift). I had no issue with my body lift back then- actually makes getting to...

The Mule's resurrection (99 Explorer Sport)

That rust..... it pains me to look at it! My Explorer has been a great rig. Even before I turned the volume up to 11 and did a SAS.

I hate this process. Vehicle ideas/input?

Does your work include packing 6 lbs of ******** into a 5 lb bag? 'Cuz that's what it sounds like you do with your old 4Runner. Get a full size. Whatever it is.

Is a swing out tire carrier worth it, or more of a PITA than it is worth?

Makes for mounting my Trasharoo a lot easier. Not all tire carriers are noisy. Mine is custom made and quiet. Pros: if you get a flat and you're buried in something (snow, sand, mud, etc.....) not having to first dig out your spare is a plus, mad ExpoAF points, if you are running larger...

    Question regarding MPG

Where do you plan on traveling? Out east and Midwest it's tough to not find a gas station with relative ease- maybe a 5 gallon Jerry to help ease your fears. Out West...... could be a different story. I did the Kokopeli Trail from Fruita, CO to Rose Garden Hill outside of Moab with the Top of...

Project X - Just another Excursion Project

You may need the V10 transmission. I believe they are the same- at least from the 10,000 foot level: both 4r100. But the 4wd transmission may be shorter than the 2wd transmission. I don't know if there is anything else different between the gas and diesel.
