Awesome build thread. Very well laid out. All mods have a purpose and have been thought about.
And I'm secretly loving that it's not a Taco or Land Cruiser.
Guess it's not a secret anymore.
I'm skeptical. Water to air cooling is done via surface area. More surface area = more cooling.
I just put a Mishimoto on my Expedition and it's thick like the factory radiator.
I'd scrap my Expedition TODAY if that were true.
Drop a ZERO off each of those and you're in the hunt (for scrap value): $800-$900. And even then, that's a couple hundred high.
So money doesn't seem to be a problem if you're willing to spend $850/month on the car payment to get rid of the loan in a year- plus gas, insurance and registration--> you're talking at least $1k month.
Perhaps this hobby of driving long distances with a bunch of crap on your vehicle isn't...
What's your main concern with the "maybe 15 mpg" in the Taco?
Is it range? Operating/ownership cost? Environmental concerns?
Range can be solved with a Jerry can or 2.
Operating/ownership cost- you said the Taco is paid for. So the only thing spending your money to own it is insurance and...
Did an appearance mod: painted the rear chrome bumper black and added some aux LED backup lights.
I spent a fair amount of time prepping the chrome so hopefully the paint sticks. I haven't done the front. The front scares me: in CO there is a bunch of sand on the road in the winter (although...
Apparently haven't updated this in awhile.
The Eclipse was great. We did the COBDR from Gypsum to WY (the easy section). Lots of smooth dirt roads with some occasional trail here and there. 4 nights, all in different locations: 2 in CO and 2 in WY.
Met up with a group on the 3rd night from...
Remote camping I'm less worried about. I'm talking about a campground. Like with picnic tables and plug-ins and flushing toilets. Traffic in and out of the campground will be significantly higher.
If you were to go camping in a campground, would you have any reservations about leaving all day with the OZ Tent set up and unattended? Lots of other people in the campground coming and going.
It kinda also depends on where you draw the line for “old”.
I have 2 vehicles that are getting up there in age- a 1997 and a 2000. In today's disposable society, these things should have been traded for the newest whiz bang gizmo a ling time ago. Yet they are both ODBII, airbags...
Yep.
Once you own these, you'll probably give up doing to winter tire thing.
I used to run winter tires. They are great- but on those warm winter days here in CO you can feel them be very squirmy and even smell them after some hard braking. And then in early April you switch them out for the...
I have the Cooper ATPs (the Discount Tire version of the A/T3) on my Expedition (similar size/weight to a Tahoe). I like them. Road noise is minimal. I've had them for 11k miles and wear seems to be minimal (rotated twice now). Snow traction is good if I behave.
A friend of mine works at...
I have a friend with a '78 300CD. What a pile of junk. Motor rebuilt at 185k miles. LOUD as hell from the exhaust manifold leaks. Most uncomfortable seats I've ever sat in. None of the vacuum actuated things work- door locks standing out in my mind. Slow as the day is long. Steering that wanders...
