    Salvage recovery Earthroamer on ebay

The insurance company probably declared it a total loss, paid out the policy, and wrote it off. Once that happens, it gets a salvage title, no matter what the actual condition is. If damages exceed something like 50% (?)of the [undamaged] vehicle value, it gets declared a total loss...

    Anti gun legislation

I don't think the schools should be mandating firearms training classes. Having it as an option, sure -- but not required. IMO, development of firearm handling skills is important -- and so is the development mental aspect of using a firearm in a defense situation (either self defense, or...

    Snorkel Wars

I've done plenty of exploring during and after rains in AZ and Utah. I still have never found a need for a snorkel (during my exploration -- as I said way back at the beginning of the thread, there are certainly times and places where one would be justified). Moab during/after a good rain...

    Snorkel Wars

I have never needed a snorkel in Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, or anywhere else for that matter.

    Anti gun legislation

Yes. I don't recall the details (that is how lame & unrealistic the idea was), but I saw an interview on network news where a congresstwit from somewhere was [trying to] introducing new legislation. I didn't give it much attention, his plan was pretty lame and probably will never get to the floor.

    Which bike?

Didn't Glen start with something other than the 650GS?

    Which bike?

I believe they will have 800s at the Expo (along with the 1200s, and probably some smaller bikes). They will have a huge presence at this years Overland Expo.

    Snorkel Wars

Lots of big words from someone who doesn't even have a snorkel. Go ahead a post up pictures and videos of *your* rig doing things that require a snorkel. I'm sure everyone would like to see them. Thanks for playing. :wavey:

KTM 950 Adventure: Expeditions West builds an ADV

Scott, we need to get together this winter -- before you buy anything. You need to take the Husaberg for a spin. This thing is as much of a 'Scotty' bike as your 950 is -- except this one only weighs 248 pounds. :bike_rider:

    Which bike?

The 1200GS is perfectly capable of the use you are describing -- but it's a big damn bike. You mention that money isn't such an object. Given that, and the fact that you didn't mention any previous motorcycle riding experience, I would suggest that you first take the Basic Rider Course from...

Ground or Whole Bean for the trail?

Whole bean. Grinding before hand increases the surface area of the coffee exposed to oxygen, which greatly increases the rate at which it loses flavor. I use a Turkish mill to grind coffee every morning when camping (electric burr-mill at home).

What to buy? BMW, KTM, or ?

I think a better argument for having similar bikes can be made by pointing out the pace at which each bike will be moving. Putting the larger tank on the KTM will help you keep up with the KLR with regards to fuel range, but nothing other than rider experience will help that KLR keep up with...

What to buy? BMW, KTM, or ?

I think he was referring to the service schedule, not the service history. The 525 likes fresh oil on a regular basis (something crazy like every 15 or 20 hours . . .).

Lipstick on a Pig: The 10 Don'ts of Vehicle Modifications

Bicycle racks and hitch baskets -- both very useful on cars and mini-vans when you get a group of people car-pooling to the (hiking/biking) trailhead.

    Anti gun legislation

I disagree. Some measures do make sense. For example, convicted felons, particularly murderers and rapists, shouldn't be allowed to own firearms. Instant background checks while purchasing firearms are a good example of that measure being enforced. Unfortunately, many times that is true...

    Anti gun legislation

Ha! See what happens before a full pot of coffee? Of course, you are correct. Search and seizure (4th) is a completely different subject. That is what the interviewee did -- and it was the right decision. I like to think I (and everyone else) would respond in the same fashion. Yes...

    Anti gun legislation

Gun haters are not alone. Gun rights supporters are also already jumping in saying how fewer people would have been murdered if everyone there had a gun. There was a story (linked from either CNN or MSN) which included an interview with one of the people who tackled the shooter. In the...

Big bikes back in the Dakar

That just begs the question: Why not break it into classes based on displacement? I haven't followed the rally at all since the big bikes were given the boot -- even though the vast majority of them were orange.
