EDIT** JUst noticed this same one was listed and posted in this thread back in June... oh well, i guess it's been for sale for a while, probably negotiable.
Here's on in Oregon (NOT MINE) for $2.5k... thats two-point-five, not twenty-five. It's older and a fixer upper, but cheap. Not AWD...
Looks like you intend to sleep sideways... or is there a front portion to the bed that is not yet in place? How wide is the bed? And how tall are you?
I'm designing/building a camper setup for my Astro van right now, and life would be so, so, so much easier if i could sleep sideways in it. Not...
Oh, you already posted a price and i missed it. Thanks for the info. A bit more than i was hoping for but probably fair, looks like a very nice system. Could much money be saved by doing a manual lift instead of electric? I only have a couple thousand to spend but that would only have to be the...
Very cool! Depending on pricing and availability, i may be interested in the top/bunk only (no cabinets) in my '93 AWD. Is the roofline the same between the older body style and the new? I think it is only the front end and fenders that are different, right?
Thanks for the info Brian, is this an AWD van? We'd love to see some more daylight pictures. How did you manage 6" of lift out of a 3" lift kit? The tires added that much more?
Terry, which parts wear faster? Are they expensive? I hadn't thought much about steering parts, but i have wondered (DO wonder) about the front axles or CVs or whatever they are... do they wear rapidly or have problems as a result of the torsion bars being cranked and/or re-keyed?
I'm...
Ha, thanks Aaron... too bad!
Burt, that sounds very interesting. I'd love to hear more details about your process and why you decided not to use the 4" kit. Pics are always great too. I've never heard of relocating the ball joint, is that common? What is your hub-center to fender arch dimension...
Thanks for the addtional feedback guys.
I got the van for $500 but am ok with having a total investment of a few thousand bucks if it makes a really cool rig out of it. It has 96,000 miles on it and has been sitting since 2004. Got it running and took it camping the other night. Seems to drive...
Yeah, i'm definitely planning on only paying real dollars ONCE for a good set of tires. I'll spend <100 for a set of temporary tires that are simply safer than the half-rotted tires i have now, until i can sort out what size if tires I want and then buy good ones.
One of the main questions i...
Looks good Terry! Is the crossmember visible in that picture under the passenger door the lowest point under the van? Would you mind getting us a dimension of ground clearance to that point? Thanks! I'm getting ready to pick up my '93 AWD Astro today hopefully and am very likely going to do a...
Thanks for the info, Aaron. Good to know. I'll be anxious to hear about the results of your 2" + 31" tires experiment. The good news about my van being the older style is that it sounds like they have a little more room in the fenders (from what i've read anyway), and since i got the van for...
Hey gang, i'm planning on a lift for my '93 AWD astro but am really torn between the 2" and 4" options. I don't want to do any major rock crawling or severe trails, but i do want to be able to do pretty gnarly roads.
I have a book: "Guide to Colorado Backroads & 4-Wheel-Drive Trails" by Charles...
Iceman, cool video. Also watched your Lead King Loop video, that was great! Love that area (haven't been there but i'm dying to go)! I have a colorado guidebook that lists that loop as "difficult" due to "a few rocky spots and stretches of narrow shelf road where it is difficult to pass." I saw...
I'm receiving my AWD Astro on Saturday. It's an early 90s model (old style front end) and has been sitting since about 2004 when it failed an emissions test. I'm getting it for $500 and will need to clean the fuel system, replace the EGR and flush all fluids. I want to replace the fuel pump...
I have no complaints power wise with mine, and it's loaded somewhat heavy. I can't imagine you'll be so dissatisfied with a good-running 4.3 to justify the swap, unless you just WANT the project, which i can understand.
Hmm, sounds pretty exagerated to me. There's no way he's seeing 24mpg with a rooftop tent and "huge military storage box" on the roof. I'm curious to see pictures though...
