You must not drive in the trees. Tree / Brush = Ripped out antenna and bend fender. Really bad idea in the NW. I switched to flexible antennas as the fiberglass ones would rarely last more than 1 off road trip. Stay on road and gravel roads.
Agreed. Bad idea to leave on all the time. Noise, Wear and you have to remove them to use anyway. Maybe for looks. But who owns a Montero for looks?? Just sayin'
Make sure you route the belt correctly. I've had multiple monteros with belt routed incorrectly. It will wear out the belt quickly. You'll want a 3ft 1/2 breaker bar. Once you've done it before it only takes minutes to do.
I'm not a fan of the rear heater. Of course, all my seats are removed. I'll be removing the entire system eventually. I love the huge sunroof. But does decrease headroom if you are camping / sleeping in the back. Overall, I'd still get the limited because I love the climate control, heated...
Wow! I guess it has been a while! Life gets busy. Free time is spend on adventures (mostly 4wd) so hard blocking off the time. It's on the to do list though.
No issues with my 31M. I sold the Taco in March/April 2014. Since then I've put the 31m into the 03 Montero (installed in June 14). It is running the same 63qt arb. Never had a dead battery. Never put a charger on it. Plenty of extended camping trips and heavy winch use. No problems...
I sold the 13 Taco in March/April 2014. Never had an issue with the 31M Die Hard Platinum. Now, I'm running the same battery in my 03 Montero (120 amp alternator). It's been running the battery since June 2014. It powered the 63qt ARB fridge. Haven't had a dead battery yet. I do carry a...
There is only one cam seal (passenger head). It can be swapped in 5-10 min. Two 10 or 12 mm bolts. The driver cam has the cam sensor and is sealed to the head. The only place for a leak is the cam sensor o ring. Really not common for these to leak.
Don't waste money on leak down test. Make sure you put in the proper plugs and get factory wires.
You'd know if the valves were bent. It would run like crap and noisy. Sounds like you'll be fine.
There are guys up there every week. I'll be leading the SOLV trail clean workday in April and driving trails afterward. It would be great having the extra hand. We typically work for 5hrs or so then go play.
AUD to US exchange rate is 81% = Everything is on sale!!! Heck yeah!
Working on ordering the Aux tank direct from the manufacturer. Debating ordering some tcase gears too...
Find a good used factory oem motor before buying a rebuild (unless from the dealer). The majority of rebuilds are crap. Tolerances are not nearly as good as factory and they only replace "some" parts.
