Aux fuel tank idea - Tell me why this won't work

My 6.2 supeduty came with a 32 gallon tank, and rolling loaded with the camper just didnt give me the range I was willing to live with. Larger "direct fit" tanks hang WAY too low, and cost a small fortune. My solution was a second tank, mounted within the custom bed I built, giving me a total...

Tarp Under Tent - Common Practice?

Or when you are above tree line, with nothing to suspend tarps from. Plenty of reasons why a tarp is essentially nonsense. Unless you are on a hobo-budget. Personally we backpack year round (even in the snow) with a 3-season Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2-person tent. Complete packed weight is just...

Hierarchy of hard sided campers that handle the snow/winter?

It can be hard to believe, but a tiny 6,000BTU propane furnace was enough to keep things comfortable (enough) even in that janky old uninsulated camper. The same BTU furnace in our custom camper can straight up cook us in temps down below zero. I keep the thermostat set to 65 or so. With two...

Hierarchy of hard sided campers that handle the snow/winter?

I say you must sort out your use-case, and balance it with desired comfort and budget. Sure, you could go with a TotalComposites setup, which is most excellent, or even a custom job like our setup, but do you actually need it? With occasional trips to Tahoe, depending upon stay duration, you...

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

It is great stuff. I applied it to our camper 4 years ago. It never sees the inside of a shop or garage, and zero fading or any issues of any kind. As for the tracker, I ran across this on FB a while back, and figured Id use it for inspiration. Figured something similar, a camo of some...

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

A few shots of todays Monstaliner treatment. Interior, entire front clip & firewall, and all 4 wheel wells received 2 heavy coats. The interior will be sparse. Door panels will go back in, and flush panels in the rear, and likely some good floor mats, but no carpet to speak of. So the heavy...

    Traveling with a dog

We have tried essentially every glow/light/reflective collar on the market. These are what we use currently, and the best so far. www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Collars-Cuttable-Necklace-Nighttime/dp/B07QXKJXDX?th=1

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

Productive morning. Officially the primer can me seam-sealed and/or top coated after 1-hour and up to 7 days without sanding. Ill give it 24hrs until its seam sealed, and plan on shooting the top coat (monstaliner) next friday.

    Forest Fire Filter Solutions?

We have two of these that run fill time when air quality is bad. They go a long way in reducing pollen within the house as well, which is great for us. https://www.honeywellstore.com/store/products/honeywell-50250-true-hepa-germ-fighting-allergen-reducer-air-purifier.htm

    Forest Fire Filter Solutions?

Ive even gone as far as fabricating a proper HEPA rated cabin filter for our superduty. Info here.... https://forum.expeditionportal.com/threads/custom-cabin-filter.237010/ Frankly, its the single best mod Ive done to this truck. For in camper filtration, we use this unit... Its small, quiet...

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

And about the dolly. Doing the math, after finishing up fabrication work on the body I realized I didnt have ANY way to get the body into the temporary shed that I use for sand blasting. So with some scraps I had, and a couple of large casters, I built a dolly. Then body was tossed into the...

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

And while we are at it... lets fix the broken primary blend door on the heater box yeah... 3d printer has already paid for itself. Certainly a purchase I should have done YEARS ago

    The Heap. A Gen 2 Tracker/Vitara Build

nearing completion of all metal fabrication, I realize that these silly clips are obsolete, and essentially none available in the country. These clips accept trim screws that hold the soft top trims in place. They are required, unless you ditch the trims and pony up for a hard top. I prefer...

Is Offroading in a SuperDuty Really That Bad?

Yeah... and at least on these Superduty trucks, 35's look downright small :ROFLMAO: I run the 285/75r18 Toyo AT as its the highest load index LT available. Quiet, smooth, and long wearing. Its also the most round and easiest to balance tire Ive ever ran.

Is Offroading in a SuperDuty Really That Bad?

They may mount "fine", but there is good reason why the tire MFG specifies wheel widths. Especially for a proper truck with a proper payload rating, that are designed to haul weight reliably/safely. Running a tire on a wheel outside the specified width puts far more strain on the sidewall...

Is Offroading in a SuperDuty Really That Bad?

It happens. A high GVW gasser F250 will have a decent payload rating. Even my "old" 2011 F250 6.2 gasser with a 9900lb GVWR had near 3500lbs of payload when stock. (y)

Flatbed build, clearance between truck and camper? Alaskan and 2018 Silverado

Ive fitted our flatbed very close. The cross-body box has less than an inch of clearance from the back of the cab. This cab however, tips forward at the belt line so the window is more like 1-3/4" to 2" from the box. The cabover, by design, is tight at the rack around 1-1/2" But completely...
