Sewing Thread....A discussion on making your own adventure textile gear.

Yep....looks like the factory machine lost thread tension or the needle broke (ripped holes) on that last stitch resulting in the damaged seam/thread/holes. I've had luck rolling/folding large pieces of canvas and gently feeding them through a standard machine arm while sewing long seams...

How many of you ACTUALLY overland with your 80s or 60s

The RhinoRide was also the Centerfold in a recent OVR Magazine article. She's also being prepped for a RimRocker/Moab run in 2 weeks.

Tarp Under Tent - Common Practice?

Yep.....Especially when camping at 9500 feet on Lasalle Pass as the rain is coming up the mountain and the snow is coming down the mountain, all intersecting on your tent for the entire night. Another win for an extra tarp.

Tarp Under Tent - Common Practice?

LOL.....learned about tent "Foot Prints" in Boy Scouts in 1975.......ready for your mind to be blown? Put a reflective safety blanket under your tent (perfect for a two man tent) and it does several things: - water/vapor barrier (no condensation on the bottom of your tent in the morning that...

Frustrated Dealers May Succeed in Getting Corp to Reduce Ram Truck and Jeep Prices

I just can't/won't do it....I would like (not need) a new truck but, when a base 4wd truck costs more then my first house and Dealership Sales people act like they are doing you a favor by even looking your way I'll just find something used....

Still wheeling her. From traffic jams on Vail Pass to playing in the sand to roping off of her to wheeling Fins and Things to hanging with the new FJ250's still a great travel truck!

Anyone at the Flagstaff Outdoor Expo this weekend? Please post pics!

We attended OE West again this year as a vendor which makes it our 10th year (2014). OE is reporting 30,000+/- in attendance. Not sure what those numbers include but, talking with other long time vendors and our own observations it appeared to be a bit slow and light crowds. Most of the time it...

    budget performance cars

Spring is coming to the mountains and my plan this year is to get the TR-6 out of mothballs and replace the master cylinder and do some Rocky Mountain British Car Club runs. Some of the best times in that car were the southern Missouri/Ozark Spring/Fall Club Runs with the Kansas City All British...

"Cowboy" canvas bed roll? Good, better, best?

There is a ton of videos on youtube on how to loadout a bedroll for the environment you plan to be in. You will need some type of insulating blanket since heavy canvas by itself is not particularly warm. Depending on where and what the temp is where I'm going I'll have a base blanket...

"Cowboy" canvas bed roll? Good, better, best?

FWIW. I've probably got a couple hundred nights in a bedroll, from sleeping in the bed of my truck in Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico to sleeping on the ground or on a cot in Missouri, Iowa, Colorado and Utah. They work great for what they are which is to give you a solid system to keep your...

    Better Bivvy sacks/tents?

🤣 Thanks. But, yeah, no. I made a ton of waxed canvas and natural canvas ones back in the beginning (apparently they are very popular on/in the islands). All word of mouth and custom. Most went to the early adventure riders, Ural clubs and island Jeep clubs. Sold a few at OE events but, all of...

    Better Bivvy sacks/tents?

I'm a total bedroll fan. I made a heavy canvas one years ago and keep it loaded with a couple of wool blankets and a pillow. I just used it again in Moab last week. Used it in the truck with a sleeping bag and in my tent on a cot. Keeps everything clean and neat.

    Adventure Tool Company's "RhinoRide60" Land Cruiser: Part 2 (2023)

June 2007: Approx 17 years ago, my girlfriend (now wife) and I went out to this unheard of place called Moab to explore and camp in our Safari/Overland/Adventure Suzuki Samurai. Prior to heading out I made (3) stamped medallions. While out camping each night, I hid a medallion under a pile of...
