    2005 GMC Savana Build questions

What a beast.................. Advice? Bring a foot stool, my aluminum one works great. Just get out and use that sweet Van, you will dial things in after people start to realize what goes where when on the road. A fridge and porta-potty were things I did argue that I did not need and did not...

    Boomer the Quadravan 4x4 Camper

While traveling east on two lane through NY and VT Sunday the 27th I thought I saw Boomer at a fuel stop, but my rearveiw mirror check was a maybee. We were on our way to find Campsite in NH and watch the eclipse, sorry for being so vague and in a hurry........... I admit to getting my...

Pics of your VAN! Post up!

Adirondacks and The Kancamagus just before the big color show....... I take the big show for granted, if you have not seen new England in the fall you really need to make it happen..........

    GMC 1500 AWD Van

Update on the AWD GMC The Van has evolved a bit into more of a 2 seat camper without plumbing, heating or cooking, “wife calls it a rolling dorm room, Almost complete with a west marine beanbag chair”….I like the SteelTent coined by another AWD1500 owner here.... I use...

    Roadtrek to 4wd--another option

What a nice example of a straight axle GM van, very impressed......................... I can't think of a better place to lay in bed and enjoy the view than Colorado................... Is the rear screen door a Roadtrek option? I have a piece of screen but have not sweat the mounting...

How do AWD Express vans do in sand?

I don't know about awesome but the viscous-coupled transfer-case just does it's job and get's a bad rap for it, yes it goes very well in the sand and in snow it's better than any 4 high I have driven. If you know you don't have 4 low going in to a bad spot, you will find the AWD 1500 is likely...

2014 Express AWD cargo van PNW 4 season camper

Thanks for the info fits great................. You really get out and put that Van to use, your build should inspire alot of people who keep asking if the AWD 1500 is enough. If more people could see how easy it is to live on the road in a Van like yours and enjoy attractions that are...

The great white fun hog (another white GM awd build)

Not listening..................... Back in the 80's I thought cutting the top off and screwing the sheetmetal that many times was a really bad idea for long term ownership. Those Van's all entered the crusher for other reasons long ago, I say enjoy the new project..................

    Which van for us?

Great advice.............................. NO the floor is not flat under the carpet on a factory passenger Van, two large rails go the whole length of the Van and won't unbolt easily. I was able to use them for my build and enjoyed never trying to be in and under my Van at the same time...

    GMC 1500 AWD Van

Shock spacers I just put a set of 5100 Bilstein 24-186643 shocks on the front of the Van, 2" front shock spacers came with my Key lift so I used the decent stock shocks for a year. The stock shocks compressed length with the spacer was too long, on the passenger side I smashed the shock...

Pics of your VAN! Post up!

That is a cool looking Van...........I envy the headroom.... That lift should get you to places where the view out all those windows does not include any other humans..............

My 4x4 Chevy Express van build

The AWD 1500 Van will take your family all over Colorado, I can't wait to go back to St Elmo and Imogene but in our AWD Van, White Rim makes me a little nervous but I have only been on parts of it. Alot of the best places I have been have been no challenge for a vehicle on 33" tires, remember...

    Gnarvan AWD Express build.

Very Cool AWD Van......... Thanks for posting up the info, we all need the push to take on something that has no pre-made kit. A little taller tire would be nice, I am looking forward to your progress, the fiberglass piece behind the tire is my guess for rubbing......

    GMC Savana

Don't procrastinate, the Canyon mid sizer is killing the delivery of new Vans. GM could be selling more Vans the demand is still there, customers are complaining of order cutoffs and fleeing to the new style...

    Tire Pressure Question

80PSI is not the max just what it takes to hold the rated load (it won't pop in the sun). That old school size tire will not provide street handling on par with today's traffic unless at or near 80 PSI on a heavy rig. I ran 235-85's for years and cornering on the street was like driving a 74 LTD...

budget adventure vehicle: Sprinter vs Express

The best part of a truck camper is the cab overhang while traveling, the shade on the cab allows very little A/C need but blocks the view up when in the really big mountains. The cabover bunk allows an almost unusable amount of air into the rear slider when driving, it actually blew my dog into...

budget adventure vehicle: Sprinter vs Express

The original poster thinks he can pack like he's camping in a steel tent so the AWD 1500 could be enough for him. The AWD 1500 van falls between the street oriented Sprinter and the rock crawler U Joint Vans, most backcountry campers would find the offroad capability sufficient. Expo campers...

budget adventure vehicle: Sprinter vs Express

If you keep the conversion lightweight the AWD 1500 will do what you want easily, ours pushed through the Green and White Mountains in a big "Nor-easter". The 35-65% split transfer-case does not push the front on icy corners like some 4x4's. On road handling is excellent with rack and pinion...

Going domestic, project vanilla aka the family tankster, 2004 Suburban 2500

Nice rust free BUBBASUB.......Those were the first GM wheels in 20 years that were actually nice to look at................ Another vote for Bilsteins, I bought Rancho 9000's for my K-3500 with the same empty vs loaded adjustability in mind. They never really had a sweet spot for either load...

Pics of your VAN! Post up!

That is a great find! That rig has so much good stuff done already, and none of the spooky baggage an ambulance carries............ The roller cam TBI 350 should make all the idle hours not such a big deal, that TBI small block could be one of the most reliable engines ever built. "GM still...
