Lady Godiva: 2017 Ram 3500 CCLB Build

Booo on them, that’s lame. And here I was hoping they might be reasonable about it. I’m throwing on a steering brace at the same time, so hopefully that plus the Synergy drag link will tighten things up and keep them that way.

Lady Godiva: 2017 Ram 3500 CCLB Build

Well, just got notice in the mail yesterday of recall V06/NHTSA 19V-021 affecting model year 2017 Ram 3500 trucks for a potential separation of the drag link leading to loss of steering. The specified fix is to adjust the drag link to length, then weld the jam nuts to the adjuster sleeve. IMO...

Ram 2500 XL for overland / expedition trips

^^^ this, this, and more this Radius arms and bushings at all joints are simply a cheap, fairly reliable, manufacturing compromise that satisfy the needs of 99% of the HD pickup owners out there. There is no way to get around the fact however that they place undue stress upon other components...

Sure, you can get a 2” front receiver and winch cradle.

Ram 2500 XL for overland / expedition trips

Won’t trussing the axle without addressing the radius arms just transfer the stress to the radius arm frame brackets? Soon you’ll be ripping those off. Maybe I’m not comprehending the physics right, but it seems like a Johnny joint at the frame side (like Carli does it with their spherical...

    Increasing Power Wagon payload

As someone with a 3500 and a 2,400 lb dry hard sided truck camper, you will need rear airbags. Without them my truck squatted under load and you could for sure feel the weight. Some Thuren Fab 2.5” Kings and Air Lift bags w/ Daystar cradles later and it feels a lot better, but you’ll still have...

Lady Godiva: 2017 Ram 3500 CCLB Build

Nope, thanks for the link! I shall watch the full thing later, but a few excerpts lead me to believe that if I were to swap them out, sticking with a rounded design like the AEV would be to me benefit.

Lady Godiva: 2017 Ram 3500 CCLB Build

Bumpity bumpity! Tis about time to change the differential oil for the first time and I’m considering swapping out the diff covers during the job. Yes, I know they will not improve performance at all, but having owned Toyota’s in the past I’ve grown accustomed to changing gear oil without...

Explore the Untamed: Get Lost, Find Yourself

Squamish lies just down the road from Whistler at the mouth of Howe Sound, a little tendril of the Pacific Ocean reaching inland, giving access to both the mountains and the sea. Owing to its location halfway between Vancouver (expensive) and Whistler (expensive), it is very much a town in...

Explore the Untamed: Get Lost, Find Yourself

With Bella Coola in our rearview mirror, we set our sights on Whistler and Squamish in lower British Columbia. These areas are famous for both their unrivaled skiing (hosted the Winter Olympics) and, more relevant to us, the mountain biking. See, since the dawn of mountain biking, both Whistler...

    35" or 37" tires on a DD F350 or Ram 3500

Since @Fish mentioned airbags, I’d also like to add that my truck required airbags with the camper (dry weight: 2,400 lbs, loaded weight maybe 3,000 lbs). Additional details are tucked away in my build thread, but I’m running Air Lift bags with Daystar cradles and have been happy with the combo.

    35" or 37" tires on a DD F350 or Ram 3500

For what it’s worth, I have the Thuren 0.5” soft ride springs up front on my RAM 3500 and have been carrying around my Lance camper for 8+ months now and have no complaints about any payload impacts. Paired with the King 2.5” shocks they’ve performed well both on and off road.

    Clutch’s deep thoughts thread...

Mirrors my experience. The Ford was the quieter, more refined interior of the two, and it probably had a smoother ride as well. The RAM was more of a no frills get ******** done kinda truck, and I liked that, hence how I ended up in a 3500 instead of an F350.

Explore the Untamed: Get Lost, Find Yourself

Leaving Valdez, we set our sights on Wrangell St. Elias National Park. Wrangell is a funny park, there are very few entrances and practically no trails to speak of considering it is America's largest National Park. Together with it's neighboring Kluane National Park (Canada's) and Glacier Bay...

With our time on the Kenai peninsula having come to an end, we trained our sights on south east Alaska, namely Valdez (pronounced Val-deez) and Wrangell St. Elias National Park. While it is tempting to skip both of these stops given their remote locations, I can assure you it is well worth the...

Heyo! Long time no post, but its 2019 now and we just left for part 2 of our road trip, so it's time to get some updates on here and catch everyone up on our doings. Where did we leave off? Oh yes, back in Alaska, 8,000 or so miles ago. Without further ado, let's get into it with a neat little...
