2003 Montero Limited - Lawrence of Arizona

12/23/18 Test Day #5: After installing my fresh new center caps it was time to break them in with some more Gen 2 vs Gen 3 testing! I had a bunch of family in town for the holidays and they wanted to go offroading so we hoped in Lawrence and headed over to Butcher Jones Cover at Saguaro Lake. I...

2003 Montero Limited - Lawrence of Arizona

12/23/18: I've been working on this for awhile off and on and finished it up today. After installing the 5th Gen 4runner wheels I kind of forgot about the center caps but after a few months, I finally got around to working on them. As you can see, the wheel looks kind of unfinished and lets...

Alternator woes on a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Limited

FYI - I doubt this helps you but I have a 100amp genuine Mitsu alternator that needs to be rebuilt. You can have it for free if you like, just pay $8-12ish for shipping.

    Arb front bumper 3rd gen

I concur - OME HD is the way to go for anyone that is going to use the vehicle in a camping/overland set up. Just in armor I've got nearly 300lbs worth on my Gen3 - ARB bumper, 3 ADD skids, rock sliders, and I still need to get a fuel tank skid, rear a/c skid, and rear bench skid so that'll push...

2003 Montero Limited - Lawrence of Arizona

11/28/18: I got a new Denso O2 Sensor from Amazon to hopefully fix this pesky CEL. It's almost the last piece of the puzzle since I've already done everything that I know of that could cause this code other than start testing / messing with the fuel system. I go out to the truck with a few...

2003 Montero Limited - Lawrence of Arizona

11/24/18: Test Day #4 - Gifted my dad the left seat for his bday and he looked through my AZ 4x4 Trails Book and picked the China Dam / Tule Creek Homestead trail which is rated as Moderate. Within 5 miles of leaving my house and getting on the highway the CEL popped back on. Ugh, I guess the...

2003 Montero Limited - Lawrence of Arizona

Passenger side is actually really easy other than the Exhaust Manifold stud install. Driver side = pay a pro to do it.

2003 Montero Limited - Lawrence of Arizona

11/15/18: The next day I had a similar feeling all day and as mad as I was, I couldn't repress the urge to fight again and win this battle. I don't think there is anything I can do with the exhaust leaks so I focus on the instrument cluster problem. I know about the R10 resistor solder issues on...

2003 Montero Limited - Lawrence of Arizona

11/14/18: I was itching to get Lawrence back together and ready for a weekend trip to Flagstaff so I decided to go into the garage and wrench at like 10pm. I figured I could get the manifold installed and everything buttoned up in about 1-2 hours. Boy, was I wrong. It didn't take long for...

2003 Montero Limited - Lawrence of Arizona

11/7/18: While waiting for the Chinese Manifolds to show up I gave the exhaust hardware a bath in Krud Kutter and wow what a difference. I bought it over a lot of other rust removing products because of a youtube video by Project Farm that compared a bunch of different brands and this one won. I...

Poll: Scrap gen3 limited? Need your opinion

Oh ps - finding replacement trannys can be difficult and expensive. My 03 got a new tranny with 114k put in a few months back by the PO and it cost him $1,000 at a junk yard. BUT they can be found for much less than that still with some sleuthing. In Arizona, I know of one already pulled unit...

Poll: Scrap gen3 limited? Need your opinion

To me, the question isn't Cost of Repairing Current Montero vs Cost of much more expensive Vehicle you have to finance. It's fix this Montero vs get a replacement Gen3. A stock replacement can be had with waay less miles, like 150-200k, for around $2-3k. Then even after you put another $1-1.5k...

2003 Montero Limited - Lawrence of Arizona

10/31/18: I parked the Bedouin in the garage and started tearing it down for much needed repairs. I started by removing the Passenger side Exhaust Manifold. This is a very easy job and I'm so thankful it wasn't the Driver's side that was cracked (that side had already cracked a few years ago and...

Poll: Scrap gen3 limited? Need your opinion

Definitely doesn't make sense $ wise to fix all that if it is a stock truck. So the only reason to spend that kind of money would be if you had a lot invested in 4x4 mods on it or had a sentimental attachment to it.

Cracked Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Gen 3

Yeah, I was worried about Chinese manifolds as well but gambled on one 2 years ago for my Gen 2.5 and it has been fine since. This manufacturer's products look a lot better than that last manifold I used too but only time will tell.

Cracked Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Gen 3

Wow, that's a big crack. Ya, getting to the Driver side is way harder than the Passenger side. You'll probably have to remove the battery box and heatshield for starters and then maybe even the y pipe to get even more room to work. Hit the bolts with some penetration oil a day or so before you...
