    Camper and Truck Photos

You have one of the best rigs out there. Simple, classic, and it's set up just right for what you use it for. I like the fact that you can use the tailgate as a porch. :sombrero:

    Building Camper for Small Pickups

Great build. I've been thinking about a very similar build. I like the idea of the low profile forward overhead storage for bedding, clothing, etc. What is the width of your camper?

    Lil help needed

Jerry has given sage advice. The 5.3s are stout and economical for the size of the vehicle. :sombrero:

Travels with Bubbles, 2012, Chapter 1: Oregon (long, pic-heavy)

Nice write-up...thanks! My in-laws live just outside of Prineville and I'd really like to take some time and explore all of Central Oregon. Sounds as if you had a great trip. :sombrero:

    Pickup vs. suv

 "Did you guys not read his original message? His budget is $8k." Yes, I read it. The mention about the Suburban was not about the year but rather about an SUV option. I am guilty of not being grounded in time, though. I consider anything with OBD II to be newer. :sombrero:

    Pickup vs. suv

I've had both. As some previous posters have mentioned, a newer crew cab with shell is the way to go. :sombrero: (Of course, my wife drives a 2010 Suburban and would argue with me...until she borrows my truck to pick up a bale of hay.)

    70 C-20 4x4 Suburban Father/Son project

And...my wife had the Palm Springs family dates wrong. I get an extra day in the desert with the boys! :wings:

    Heavy duty shocks

I ran Rancho 9000s for about a year. DID NOT like them. Replaced them with Bilstein 5100s...much better. But (and I'll catch flack for this) the shocks I really liked on my truck were Monroe Magnums. Twin tube, not monotube, but controlled roll slightly better than the Bils. Just another option...

    99 Ram w/ 97 Sun-Lite

That's the spirit! Tahoe is great, but he'll soon discover that Mammoth is THE MOUNTAIN. Hope I haven't started a war in his thread...:sombrero:

Can anyone recommend a good quality cooler??

I use a very un-ExPo Coleman Ultimate Xtreme on wheels. It will keep block ice for almost a week if you take care not to open it often for drinks, keep it shaded, etc. My next experiment will be with dry ice. Great value and service for the money, fairly inexpensive. :sombrero:

    Coleman peak 1

15 years? Try more like 30! Used one when they first came out as a (heavy) backpacking stove. Blowtorch on high but very adjustable. Good units. :sombrero:

Survival Stoves: Optimus vs. Esbit vs. Soda Can

JetBoil. Compact, "lightweight", 2 -cup integral container, runs like a blowtorch. I still have a working Optimus/Svea from my Boy Scout days. In terms of efficiency, it's a nice museum piece, but you still gotta love them for their ingenuity. :sombrero:

Nice (re)build; looking forward to updates. Consider putting it on this site also. :sombrero:

Project “Polar Bear”: 1989 V2500 Suburban

Nice job; you do like your mannys. I hope you have a heated garage otherwise this project is aptly named. :sombrero:

    99 Ram w/ 97 Sun-Lite

OK...we're still out there following your thread, just catching up with holiday duties, etc. I can relate to chasing problems on the truck. Once I added the bumper/winch and leveled it out I've been busy replacing suspension/steering components. Having 235k miles hasn't helped either. I like...

Probably. In fact, your truck may be stopped at the border and turned right around for not having the required amount of bling. :sombrero:

What's new at Coyote RV/Phoenix Pop up?

Hey there Vzfit. I, for one, think that keeping the tailgate is a great idea for all of the reasons you mentioned. Larry, another regular who posts quite a bit on Domestic Full Size, has his Phoenix tucked into the back of his Chevy with the tailgate on. I've seen it up close and it is muy...

Thanks for the offer of help with ordering, Larry. When the time comes I may have to look you up. As it turns out, I do have access to the GM Employee Discount through my brother-in-law...he builds satellites for Raytheon, a GM company. When we mentioned this to the dealer where we bought the...
