    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

A bit more, trial fitting the bumpers. The rear is not right yet, needs some reworking in the bottom center so the outer ends can be rotated upwards. The front, once adjusted should be fine.

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

Finally a little more done, between the May rain & snow and hosting an aviation event I finally got to coating the work area with POR 15. I had started prepping the frame in the rear wheel area but I really want to do a more proper job, I truly would like to lift the body off the frame and do...

    OEM MZ690196 air filter price $75. ?

I second using Rockauto, a Denso filter from them is under $15 plus shipping. I do not see where you find the over $75 filters, my search is near half that from dealers.

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

One more step roughed in. First part was to restore the four bumper mounts to the frame. Next I got the final fitting done and have partially welded the hitch on. I like it, it is tucked up and in as tight as logical. I then set the bumper in place, I did not cut the center out, that was done...

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

Well after an absolutely miserable time away from productive life, The evening after my last post I got myself a strong case of food poisoning. Not a nice way to take a dozen days off from life. I can not say I have ever gone 7-8 days without eating or even drinking water. So what do I do to...

    Toasty's '98 Montero Build

I doubt that has anything to do with the converter.

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

With a drizzly 40ish Deg day here I am playing indoors, back to the Ex flanges.Decision is to stay with the flanges I recently bought. I have mounted the flanges on the mill and moved the bolt holes to where they need to be. This will be followed with the two upper end holes getting a tubular...

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

One question I felt the need to answer was mounting a power steering pump. The later Eclipse/Galants run two accessory belts with a 4 groove for the pump. The cars though with their more modern rack system are not like the older rack pumps that can be re-valved to work with a steering box. The...

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

I am giving thought to regrouping on the flanges. I have a set of essentially new, although not kept dry for the past 16 years, factory Galant manifolds. I will decide as the day goes on if I finish what I started or change to these flanges. I might be best keeping these for my next swap and...

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

I do not get to see many nearly new engine bits around here, this is a head that came off the 3.8 Galant engine I built my 3.8 DOHC engine from 15 years ago. I intend to build another one of these soon to go into my Diamante wagon. It will be really nice to have more low end power than the...

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

A bit more done to make the header flanges usable. I bought some steel pipe and turned it to the ID and OD needed, seems I did not take any shots of the lathe work Oh well. After turning and facing I cut the parts in the bandsaw and faced the backsides. This followed by some presswork, again no...

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

Next step up front with this will be to build the headers. These will be long tube stepped 3-1. I bought a pair of flanges from RRE last fall who claim their flanges are same as port and CNC machined, these are flame cut, not machined. Unfortunately their port size is for 1 7/8 tube where these...

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

The first part of this afternoon I grabbed a length of ½" 2011 hex stock and turned up a couple of long nuts to retain the left side of the radiator which has 8mm studs on the body. The far side will have one long 8MM bolt passing through a plastic sleeve to hold the radiator to the bulkhead.

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

After a few trial fittings of the radiator with just a few tack welds, a tight spot down at the frame where the idler arm mounts needed a bit of clearancing done low on one tank and moving one fastener thimble 1mm it was welding time. I was surprised to see I spent more than 3 hrs on the tig...

All machining done, parts fitted and welding will be next. Back out to the chainsaw, cleanup time.

    Pajero Mk2 SWB MIVEC Build

I had a chance today to machine the thimbles that pass through the radiator tanks that allow mounting to the factory hard points up front. These will be two custom machined long nuts on the left side and one though bolt on the right. The center hole on the left is for a fan switch, I use the...

    Gen 2.5 3.8 Swap

What this build is parts wise, The 05 Galant engine had the Montero oil sump and water pump swapped over. I do not recall if I utilized the Galant or Montero WP itself since the diameter of the belt sheave varies on the V6s. The later style tensioner was retained since they tend to offer a more...

    Gen 2.5 3.8 Swap

This I expect is a bit of a history piece since it is a swap done long ago. In 2005 I bought two non running 1995 SRs from the dealer I worked with. Fun part is the dealer is a 10hr round trip from me and these are heavier than I chose to tow behind my Mighty Max. So it cost me a bit in favors...
