Not necessarily a hack. Could be a nice truck. Former military trucks tend to have led a hard life. The crazy thing is that truck would be a $4000 or less truck any where else in the world. Not as crazy though as the Defender 110 at 55 grand.:) Blair

Or it could be a older body placed on a newer chassis made to look like a 110. The truck is a military 110 (not defender, pre 1990) with the side compartments and 2 piece doors and sliding windows. It could very easily be replicated using a combination of new and old parts. If I replaced my 88...

Looks like we are narrowing in on the problem. I might have got a 200Tdi bolt instead of the one I needed. The length of the snout was changed between the 2. I can cut the bolt I have and it should be fine.....hopefully. Blair

Thanks Keith, I can't seem to tighten it by hand all the way so that the dampener is tight against the crank. I noticed this before and added a spacer as I think some work has been done in the area in the past. Not sure what they did. I have wrapped the pulleys with webbing and am...

Anybody know if an impact wrench is used to tighten the main dampener bolt to the crank? Its a big ******** and it is still loose after manually tightening it. Blair

As my 110 is a 3 door it has the stock rear bulkhead still in place. I have removed the top pieces to investigate what is underneath. I see that companies in Europe sell kits for this procedure. Does anybody know of a company in the USA that sells this kit before I try to make one? Blair

Funny how it varies talking to CARB. The guy I talked to said the 4bt engine was a legit engine because it was 50 State approved and was used during the years of the Land Cruisers production. He was the one who brought it up also. Blair

From what I understand they are legal. Since both of these engines are available in the states and are considered viable candidates for transplant. The reason the Toyota motor is not is because Toyota never brought in a Diesel variant of the 80 Land Cruiser. Blair

In California, a diesel swap is not really a viable option. From what I can figure it out it is pretty much a crap shoot with regards to the DMV. The only exception is the installation of a 4bt. I want one though. Although the new cruisers with the v8 Td would be nice.:) Blair
