    Best Pee Jars?

Be sure to get a different color than you use for canteen purposes. I get the neutral dark (smoked) color. Al l my others are the normal HDPE ones just like this photo.

    Pelican 1650 and 1610

Ebay search. Be aware that for cases that have preinstalled custom foam, often the foam comes out easily, but sometimes the glue is tough and needs a bit of additional labor to clean it all out.

ARB compressor in a Zarges case

Various online retailers have comprehensive dimensions charts (internal/external) for Pelican, SKB, and the other similar cases. Once you have the dimensions of the exact model compressor you intend to use, it's easy to sift through the size charts to find the case you need.

    The "Expedition hat" thread

I got a Filson hat once. Nice big brim 'outback' style hat. Made of waxed cotton, oilcloth or some such. Took it on a desert trip. When I put it on on an 80ºF day, within 5 minutes it started to stink with a kind of machine oil smell. Back to the $19.95 washable cloth boonie. that hasn't...

Has anyone tried out the new Frontrunner Wolfpack Pro boxes?

Ha! There is an Underwater Kinetics (AKA Tundra) case, the UK 821, that is very close in size/internal volume to the Wolf Packs. I recommend them as an upgrade from Wolf Packs.

I'm killing batteries -- time to go LiFePo4?

Starter batteries, used in a deep cycle situation, are guaranteed to fail. My experience: The "dual use" AGM batteries from reputable companies like Odyssey and Northstar work as advertised. I have a Group 34 Die Hard Platinum (actually an Odyssey) bought in 2013 and used exclusively for fridge...

GPS on a laptop - please help

I noticed a similar inquiry recently on Overland Bound. Curious, I Googled it. A brief search seems to show that here seem to be at least several such apps...or apps that claim to live track from an offline map.... available for Windows.

    Servicing Your Fridge Freezer

If you aren't going to use the fridge for weeks or months, it is better to leave the Engel running on household 120V AC, with some ballast in it, than leave it in non-operational storage. Source: Engel.

    Peg Hammer Options?

Estwing geo hammer. Head hits the tent pegs (which are Snow Peak, ha ha) and the pointed end goes under the cord loops when removing pegs. I have the 22 Oz version.https://lakesidegems.com/collections/tools-and-equipment/products/estwing-22-oz-rock-hammer (Don't go by the price in this link.)

    Water container recs/stowage of them...

Sensitivity to smells varies greatly between individuals. To my nose, Scepter MWCs have the same standard polyethylene smell that the old fashioned Nalgene 1 liter water bottles (canteens) that they sell at the hiking store. Like you, I smell it but cannot discern a taste in the water.

    Front Runner Wolf Packs

The nesting feature of the wolf packs is unique and unbeatable, but I'm slowly migrating to UK 821 cases, which are thin-walled compared to Pelican type cases, and have about the same volume and shape as wolf packs. Plus: Hinged lids, o-ring seal, less wasted space, conventional carrying...

    IPad, iPhone and InReach

I played briefly with Caltopo and decided that the UI was not intuitive for me, and <<<<IMO>>>> the instructions seem to have been written by people that spent too much time enmeshed in government or military bureaucracy.

    Sunlight readable

Good question; A smartphone with a daylight readable screen! It'd have to be the Android system, since Apple isn't going to make it, IMO. My Garmin Montana 700i has a pretty good daylight readable screen, but of course it's a Garmin device that is expensive (tho cheaper than a newer iPhone) and...

    AUS Water Jerry Cans

Scepter MWCs screw tops often leak a bit, but be aware that Scepter changed the water cans recently (last ≈2 years?) by adding an o-ring seal to the cap. I've got 2 of these new o-ring cans, but haven't taken them into the field yet.

    Best Pee Jars?

That McKesson hospital-type pee bottle has one big problem: The cap does not secure. It can easily be flipped open if the bottle is knocked over in the dark, which will happen.

    fridge... battery..solar..questions

    IPad, iPhone and InReach

Gaia will work perfectly with iPhone 12, and should work fine with that iPad. Just in case, make sure the iOS iteration that your iPad runs on meets the current 'system requirements' of the Gaia app. 32 GB storage on that iPad is small if you wanted to keep a large library of maps, but...
