OP if you’re fine babysitting the truck on the downhill side of steep passes then the gasser would be adequate. However if you want to turn the engine brake on and forget it then the Cummins is still the answer. Mileage will suck with both, but not near as bad with the diesel. However higher...
Mileage will be in the single digits pulling those grades regardless of engine choice. The difference is still noticeable. Like the poster above said the lack of engine braking would be my biggest concern. It’ll still handle it just fine, but it’ll require a lot more attention and strategy to...
The glass is meh, and I won’t be buying anymore. However I’m surprised you’re such a fan of the MILC but don’t like the PR1 though considering they’re almost identical lol
I agree about the typical pull up locking turrets, but the pinch style locking turret of the MK5 and ATACR 42mm don’t slow anything down nor require any additional forces be applied up or down. I typically zero my rifles with 3 tenths of down travel below the actual zero stop. So while a zero...
The low profile turret isn’t a visibility issue. I enjoy easily and quickly verifying turret zero with my rifle in my lap while never taking my eyes off target. It never gets accidentally spun a few tenths either.
MILC is the only reason I’ve stuck with that particular optic. I’ve got a couple of them as well as a couple MK5 3.6-18 PR1s which are another great hunting reticle. It’s likely a ZCO 420 MPCT1 gets thrown on my 6 PRC, and I’ll move this ATACR over to one of my boys rifles. IMO the MPCT1, PR1...
I wish I could like the elevation turret on those larger 50mm 4-16 ATACRs. I much prefer the low profile locking turret of the 4-16x42mm. I’d like a little more objective for low light ability although the 42mm has worked perfect for me for many years.
I’ve drug a full size burb leveled with ATs out through some nasty stuff in NM last year. Wasn’t by their choice though. They spent the week camping at altitude, and the trail in was in pretty rough shape on the way out.
Do not forget the extended brake lines. I’ve gone the exact route you’re talking about, and waited a few weeks to add the brakes lines as I ran out of time during my install. Daily driving it wasn’t an issue, but I could quickly and easily put the stock brake lines in a bind with the new...
One of the perks of my job is a take home company truck for personal use. I’ve got a 2020 Toyota Tunda SR5 crew for a company truck and that I use as a daily driver. Company picks up the tab for 100% of it, and the fuel in my personal truck. Lol I’m very thankful for both of those.
I completely understand you want to spend your time enjoying the adventure and your new camper, but come on bro. There’s a whole lot of us trying to live vicariously through you right now 😂
The real benefit of going with a 2.5” Carli suspension is the ride quality. You’re going Pin Top aren’t you? I went Back Country, and sometimes dream of the Pin Too but have to remind myself the BC is better suited for my needs lol
