    The Status of Overlanding Today

I proudly call what I do camping. I don't video or post anything that I do though. I just like being off the beaten path, and occasionally at a coastal campground. :D

    Power Wagon vs F250 Tremor

Second on the Godzilla. We ordered a F350 Super Cab XLT, 7.3/4.30, non-Tremor and put a full Carli Pintop on it. Nice ride.

    ARB Awning on Provan Tiger

I ended up a little below $1000 for a custom Dragonfly Haiku and two rails. We can attach it to the side, the back, or erect it independent of the rig. They aren’t cheap, but they are really well made. I didn‘t find a better alternative for our purposes. Kelty makes a tarp that you could rig...

    ARB Awning on Provan Tiger

I have that ARB awning on my current rig. It will be a huge pain at that height. It rolls up by hand. Getting it out will be hard enough, but getting it back up will be a pain. They are unwieldy. We‘re building a new rig. After exploring all of the options out there decided to go in a...

    2003 F350 Suspension Recommendations

It depends on the flatbed design. If the OP is getting the Bowen I’m getting, the COG and bed height are the same as stock. It’s not flat. The center is standard bed height and the area over the wheel wells is 5” higher. It’s really a bed replacement as opposed to a flatbed. The trade off is...

    2003 F350 Suspension Recommendations

I have a new SD, also waiting for a Bowen bed and a Hallmark camper. I went with a Carli pintop/Deaver leaf setup, on 35s. That said, the most I’ll get off the beaten path is Baja. If you are going to be way off the radar, you might consider a reduction in performance, for increased...

    37s Load D or E?

Something to consider too is that there are many advantages of staying with 35s. That’s why I didn’t go to 37s. Peter does a lot of crawling where the clearance helps. For the rest of us, 37s might not be worth it. The attached pic is my SD with a Carli Pintop and Carli designed Deaver leaf...

    37s Load D or E?

Good point. My main argument is that we can intuit a lot from the pressure/load charts, and don’t have to only run E at max inflation to be safe. Like me, that’s what you elect to do. You don’t change pressures, but you are air’d down all the time.

    37s Load D or E?

I routinely do on the rig in the avatar (LT 275/70 R18 Wildpeaks) and I will on the new one we‘re building (Hallmark on a Bowen with LT 35 12.5 R17). I‘m still below the capacity per wheel, even aired down. They don’t feel “squishy.” I fact, on washboard, they are too bouncy if I don’t air down...

    37s Load D or E?

Every company publishes a weight capacity per wheel for all the sizes they produce at a whole host of pressures. I happen to run Toyo Es (A/T III, 35/12.5x17), but I NEVER run them at full inflation (65 psi). They are too hard and bouncy. I'm still WAY under their capacity at 50 psi, which is...

2020 Ford F250 on 37s - Expedition Truck Camper Build!

I believe his were made directly by Deaver to his specs. Mine were designed by Carli and built by Deaver to carry a generic weight, 1800-2000 pounds full time in the bed. Not sure why they have a different number of leafs (leaves?) though.

Stranded in a Snow Storm FACT CHEK

It’s up to the reader to glean the truth. To offhandedly discard an outlet or profession just leads to epistemic closure and perpetual confirmation bias. It is why we are where we are. Too few understand nuance and critical thinking anymore.

Stranded in a Snow Storm FACT CHEK

Most journalists have degrees, are taught to seek all information, no matter of how it comports with their personal beliefs, and report what they determine is the “truth” regardless. To say that all journalists are equivalent to opinion piece writers is just a lazy cop out, to allow one to only...

    IPad, iPhone and InReach

I love Caltopo. I have a premium subscription to both. I‘ll have to dig deeper. Thanks for the tip!

Stranded in a Snow Storm FACT CHEK

I have a ‘21 Chevy Bolt and a ‘22 F350 (and a ’08 Silverado soon to be my son’s). The Bolt, and I’m sure you could insert Tesla, Kona, VW, or any other EV here, is just about a perfect around town car. It’s reliable and economical. Even tough it represents close to the bottom of the barrel on...

    IPad, iPhone and InReach

The truck has Sync 3 which does support Apple CarPlay. Maybe I’ll eliminate one thing and dump the pad. The tradeoff though is that I miss out on radio and temp data when CarPlay is on. Conflicted! ?

    IPad, iPhone and InReach

Does the InReach just complicate things? What’s its advantage verses a regular external GPS device? Like I said, I have the InReach, but I haven’t dug deeply into its functionality. I have it as an SOS device. I don’t have to use it in this configuration. Thanks everyone for guiding a rookie! ?
