Sleeping
I usually sleep in the shell, but if on a longer journey, the shell gets loaded up with crap, so I take a small tent. I'm thinking of getting a "lumber rack" that fits over the shell, maybe then get a RTT. My wife isn't a camper, so it's usually me and the dog...
It was "New...!"
The truck had 300 miles on it, I traded the stock tires for the Coopers; Other than the shell and tires it was bone stock. In hindsight, I probably should not have attempted Steele Pass alone, mid-week with no one around. The only tricky part was not having a "spotter..."
Baja trip...
Try not to make your truck "too blingy", especially if you have your surfboards displayed. I would gas up at the border and not stop until you are a good 200mi south of the border to avoid problemas...

Crazy Euros...!
With the dollar in the ****s and the Euro as good as gold, all the crazy-cheap-***-adventurer-Euros are traveling all over the US and beyond... I am jealous and wish for the good old days of a strong economy and powerful dollar... I think it will be a looooooong time before we...
custom aluminum
I have seen someone in Santa Barbara who had what looks like a custom aluminum rack mounted ON the snug top. It had verticle bracing on all four corners that attached (bolted through) to the shell. I guess a metal shop could fab something up that could bare the weight, but the...
Death Valley Update

I'll let you know how airing down and driving saline valley rd will go; I am leaving in the AM. First trip; all stock 09 taco 4x, 4cyl.5spd,reg.cab, snugtop with 265/75/16 cooper s/t's
:smiley_drive:
Thanks for all the replies/advice; I WAS actually thinking of SALINE VALLEY RD!!! Sounds like airing down will solve problems until I can convince my wife that I need coil overs and Deavers...I guess I'll have to drive with fully inflated tires until she "gets it"!
Hey to ******** Cabasa from...
Hey guys (ladies too),
A newbie 09 Taco here; Just wondering what tried and proven ideas on how to smooooth out those graded roads with minimal suspension upgrades. I was thinking new coil overs up front with "Deaver" springs in back and upgraded rear shocks... Will that do?
:truck:
