Regarding steering boxes - 1980-1996 F-series and E-series Steering boxes bolt to the inside of the frame rail and have the pitman arm pointed forward. Ford fullsize passenger cars of the same model years got a steering box tha looks exactly the same, bolts to the frame rail in exactly the same...
If you get an aftermarket replacement tank by Spectra it's made with their "Ni-Terne" steel, they use that same material for both diesel and gasoline tanks. We have a Ni-Terne steel Bronco gasoline fuel tank in a diesel truck, been years with exactly zero problems.
Nice bike!
For alighment, camber is kinda easy if you have good straight brake rotors - chuck a magnetic angle finder on their outboard braking surface vertically in front of the hubs and that will tell you what angles they sit at, that is also the wheel's camber. Caster you should be able to...
Oh I'm all too aware of what's involved in installing a Bronco tank in a pickup truck (we got one), I get a chuckle every time I see someone claiming it to be an easy-peasy bolt-on deal. And for the record you don't need a skid plate to go with that tank, parts stores do sell regular straps to...
Well that's a bummer that your tank came without the install kit. But mistakes happen especially now that the holiday frenzy is upon us. Hopefully yo get it all sorted out, you will really like the extra fuel capacity. By the way the floan and its steel arm off a Bronco will wit onto your...
Looks like you're moving right along at a pretty good clip. Your bed framework design is very similar to ours, except we have both side to side and front to back beams, and they're on top of each other and at every "intersection" they are glued and screwed together. We lost an inch and half of...
It's called brand loyalty, and no it makes absolutely no sense these days, but people still continue to practice it. IMHO every manufacturer has good designs and bad designs, so saying one is definitely better than another seems kinda senseless. Luckily I don't think we get much of these...
Actually you got the Ford engines wrong, the early ones (the IDIs) are pretty much identical to the 12-valve Cummins in that they require very little maintenance and just keep running and running. They are, however, fairly low-power engines by todays standards, and are not as easy (or cheap) to...
I'd imagine the reason folks lift GM's fullsize IFS is they like the lifted look but can't afford a proper SAS (a Ford D60 alone can hit $1k in some areas of the country, and you still gotta either buy the $500-600 brackets kit or do quite a bit of fab work). Of our trucks the only one that's...
Actually I meant how old of a vehicle are you two willing to put up with. Our friend that I mentioned was looking for a CCSB truck for example couldn't care any less how old his new truck would be as long as it's stone-cold reliable, his wife on the other hand is highly unlikely to tolerate...
Well like I said a 7.3 Superduty won't ride as nice as the newer ones in factory form, so you got some wrenching to do there. Extremely reliable trucks tho, especially with the ZF6 stick-shift. GMs all ride nice since they went IFS in the late 80s, not sure how I'd go about a 2" lift on those...
Agreed, and that's exactly what I'd do, not just for the coils but also the larger unit bearings (it's also the way to go when converting a 2wd truck to 4x4). That and I wouldn't touch 6.anything cause of the repair costs anyways, which goes back to what Tgreening asked about the OP actually...
The problem with any 7.3 PSD is that it lives in a chassis that is leaf-sprung on all 4 corners. So if the wife didn't like the FIL's truck, she's not gonna like anything that has a 444 in it. The nicer ride in Fords came about with the coil-sprung front axle, but that didn't happen till 2005...
Yeah you may be waiting for a while on that Warn, then again tis the season for X-mas miracles. JK, hope you do get a nice deal on one. Personally I'm more of a Ramsey/Pierce fan, but any worm-drive winch can get somewhat interesting to package in relatively confined spaces.
I saw the 7" are...
Actually them would be the LEDs that are currently too rich for our budget - even though prices have gone down some since they were first released, it will be a long time before we can drop $1200 on just headlights, be they as awesome as they may.
Regardless, you seem to be having way too much...
Upgrade for truck: bed cap, because solid roof and walls beat a tent on the ground and it's nice to be able to keep your stuff dry and hopefully secure.
Upgrade for Jeep: soft top or hard top (whichever you don't have), because sun and rain respectively :D
Also, a fullsize spare wheel, with a...
It's based on experience with others who have shown attitude similar to yours. When people do stupid things, screw up, then bail and leave others to sort out the mess, it tends to leave said others a bit bitter about the whole ordeal. Good to hear you're owning up to your mistakes though...
Speaking of projectors, does anyone make them in standard 4"x6" housings? Or the 7" rounds? Got some aftermarket assemblies that take those sizes of lamps, wouldn't mind having proper projectors in them... LEDs are still a bit too much for our budget, LOL.
