Thank you for explaining that. It's nice to get some info from someone who actually gets out there constantly and with children. There's a lot of cool info and builds but they all seem more geared to two people and not suitable for my case.
I would love to see photos of it too.
You may have posted this already but how do you pack for your trips? And how do you camp out? I'm just trying to get an idea of how to do it in the a suburban and get some information from someone who actually goes out with their family.
Thanks for all the sharing of your trips. It's really...
took it out for its first real off road test and further away from home. It handled great, especially considering the suspension is stock and the front shocks are still the originals. Lowered the Falkens to 20psi and it smoothed the ride out a ton.

I think they might have been a dealer install because they’re seamlessly installed. But I questioned if myself. Still not a 100% sure if it’s factory or not but I like them.

Thanks Chilli! The kit I bought is the most affordable I've found from RuffStuff Specialties. It's only US$149.50 and they often have a 15% off coupon code (this weekend it's Valentine18). The link is below.https://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/R2126.html
Not only do they offer...
You know, I completely forgot about it but I probably will put it to one side of the other of the receiver tube between the shackle point. I'll use a small LED bolt light like I did with my Jeep...
I don't believe that to be true. In this case I don't believe it will be that much more work to do. Sure you'll need to add a transfer case but you mentioned changing it out anyways.
As for the strength of converting a gmt400 2wd frame to SAS, I don't believe ORD would sell the kit if it...
3"x6"x.188" tube for the main tube. 3/16" plate for the frame mounts and 3/4" shackle mount welded all the way through and will be made longer to also have one bolt through it as well.
This is with a 35" tire (can fit up to a 39") and with 3 fuel cans (I'm not 100% sure how I want to build...
Well that changes things a bunch.
I would vote for converting the C2500 using ORD's kit http://offroaddesign.com/catalog/88-98SolidAxleConversion.htm and using the Chevy front axle. For mild wheeling the 37s will live on the D44/10bolt front axle for a while until you can find a D60 from...
Another vote for a K5 blazer or a 78-79 Bronco. Already a straight axle vehicle with a huge aftermarket. The bronco will ride better on its coil sprung front suspension but you can make them both work.

I purchased this DIY custom bumper kit to make the tire/fuel carrier.
I think 3"x6" rectangle tube will be my base 3/16" wall. Then use some 3/16" plate to make the side plates, with some 3/4" recovery points all the way through. I'll draw something up.
I won't be going with the 52s just yet. I'm going to buy the Tuff Country 2" "soft" springs #18270. So yes, the A-bomb allows you to use your stock springs. Using longer springs will push the axle forward, approximately 2" with the 52" and adds a 4" lift. I want to stay as low as possible right...
I also purchased the DIY4X A-bomb bumper center.

It will do a lot of things for me. First provide a good winch and recovery point for the front of the truck. Second, provide suspension options further down the line. I doubt this truck will turn into a serious crawler, but with...
It's been a while, but I haven't given up on the old girl.
Installed Warn Manual Hubs. Went on great and no issues though I will say they're not exactly how they used to be.
Also removed the grandpa steps. I loved them because they gave my wife (who's short) and 4 year old an easy way to get...
Ah, I was looking around and couldn't find it either. Thanks for the clarification!
What I appreciate the most from this thread is your go out and do it attitude and just a bit jealous on the time to do these adventures!
Well that changes things a lot, probably should have led with that. Just have someone build a custom tank that utilizes the factory pump, ie is a factory depth but wider/longer. Just remember you’ll want some baffling to minimize the slosh

Where do you plan to install a 40 gallon fuel tank from a suburban in a TJ? It barely fits in a suburban, a knowing how small a TJ is I don't see how you can do it it without removing the floor. That assumes it fits in between the framerails, which I doubt due to the coil pockets.
Now, if I...
