If the truck were in good shape otherwise, I'd run it.
If you're really worried about it and you have the funds, start with something newer with less mileage. But the issue there is you don't know how hard those fewer miles were.
Do you happen to know which way that is. I went to try out some Superwinch hubs I had lying around from some other project and they don’t retain themselves like I would like so I reinstalled the auto hubs. Must have done something wrong because they stay locked now. I need to remove them and...
Haven’t been doing anything crazy or photogenic. I’m terrible at taking photos while doing projects.
Currently installing some wiring to install some auxiliary flood lighting to improve the front and rear area lighting. I purchased some lights from Amazon and two wiring kits. I’ll take some...
We never had an issue while towing 7000 lbs during our durability testing. Mind you I understand that these are heavy weights for trailers and even 1/2ton trucks will move around with heavy winds with as light as the rear ends of trucks are now. My point is that the vehicle is more than capable.
I can tell you that the Dmax 2.8 will tow 5000lbs no problem all day. The 3.6 gasser will as well, but not as easily (8speed helps). The problem is you like won't find one in your price range. While I'm a GM guy as well, I think you're best bet would be to look for a very nice Ram diesel 3/4 to...
Recommend some type of recovery gear since it's 2wd. 2WD can get you far and will definitely improve your driving skills, but eventually you will get stuck, so I'd say some type of recovery gear would be helpful. A winch would be high on my list.
Oh yeah, one of those would have been sweet! Hard to find here in AZ. Never choke man, i've stopped doing that ever since I missed out on a $300 Triumph Spitfire that was in crazy good shape.
All right. Finished up the new heater core install and insulated the front floor with Fat Mat, reflectix and a heat barrier from Amazon similar to the reflectix but more dense. It does seem to keep the heat down, unfortunately I don’t have much data.
Took it out for a drive and then decided to...
There may or may not have been work on a diesel H3 before the end of Hummer.
Dmax H2 is possible but it barely fits and it’s a ton of work. I’ll keep the 6.0 and pay for the fuel.

There isn’t really anything different from the stock pieces expect the shocks which were 3.5 Fox Shocks with reservoirs. The rear was spring under with Deaver leaves and another set of Fox shocks. Everything else was stock.
The H2s are awesome for a stock rig. The weak link is the tie rod ends...
yes good points. I think I will go with manual hubs at some point, very easy swap, but I don't need it just yet.
There aren't any adapters but who knows? Our goal is to vacuum it first to find out if it's leaking somewhere. I wish I could keep it R12 though.
I don't think you'll get enough clamping force at the shock body without deforming it, at which point the shock won't work. There's a reason why truck coilover shocks are welded or threaded on the body. As mentioned above, I just don't think it's a safe practice for a vehicle this large.
I'm a bit biased, I work for GM and worked on Rod Hall's H2 and H3 race trucks. These were basically stock trucks that could do the Baja 1000 and win. The stock versions were very capable. H2s and H3s have gone to Moab, Farmington, and the Rubicon and have not failed. If I could find a decently...
Yes, that's an option as well but the springs are pretty flat, almost negative now, so new springs or an AAL would be helpful. For now I don't need either. I do need to order a brace and some shackles though!
I have no qualms cutting fenders for clearance, always prefer a lower COG. It will likely get an add-a-leaf to the front to help later. It does have rear A/C, just need to see if the system is leaking and determine if it's been retrofit to R134 or if it's still at R12. Lower priority now that...
Sorry for not being more consistent with updates but I’m slowly working on it.
As you can see the plugs are in and holding well. Basically just 19mm hex plugs, I did find that their the same as late model GM transfer case plugs.
Drove great for some short distance stuff and then found...
