What about drilling the holes a little larger and epoxy bed pillars through the canopy. Then run a 2"wide flat bar of aluminum on the inside of the topper and bolt it all back together with some extra sealant in the pillar holes.
Anytime I towed a really light trailer, they bounce all over the place on bumps. The trailer tires would get airborne sometimes.
I don't know if you could dial that out of them with custom suspension. It would suck to build something awesome and have it get torn apart on the roads.
Yep, I am in the same boat. Totally grosses me out.
The wife wanted to use the bathroom in our old camper. I was always of the mindset that it was strictly a storage closet.
I told her she could use it if she wanted, but she had to deal with it at the dump stations. She looked like she was...
These look awesome! I'd have considered going this route if they'd been out a few years earlier. Would have cut a lot of time off my build.
What's the final width on these? Are they under the 80" threshold requiring wide load clearance lights?
I struggled going with an 84" width so I could...
Yes!

Wire the heater to the battery. I have my webasto running from my fuse panel and I have issues with led lights flickering on startup. I'll be changing the wiring to come off my busbars in the future.
My wire size is all good and a bit of Google searching shows it can be an issue when running...
Yeah, it's tough to get through all the projects at times. Having no kids helps though...
I'll try to link it here, hopefully it works for you.

I think the construction is pretty basic, Wood framed, baton insulation...
I couldn't find what I wanted either so ended up building my own.
Weight definitely creeps up, I am probably about 400-500lbs over what I wanted to be at.
If you're really concerned about the total weight be wary of the 'dry' weights listed by some manufacturers.
I hear some popups can be...
My 2c.
I had a '14 ram 1500 and now a '19 f350, eqivilent XLT,SLT trim levels.
Ram had a better interior than the Ford does.
I prefer the suicide rear doors, easier to get awkward things in and out of the rear seat area. Although, if I had kids, or was in the back daily, I'd opt for the...
I'd go with a smaller winch too. That's what I'll be doing when I get some spare cash for one. (Not a priority at all) My truck is around the same weight as your van and I've got both a front and rear receiver.
Front receiver is rated for max 10,000 lb straight pull. So I'll likely go with a...
How many miles are you planning to put on this thing yearly?
Correct me if I am wrong; but, from your post it seems that money isn't really an issue and I get the feeling it will have many miles added.
If that's the case then I'd go with a 1 ton diesel dually, with a long bed. Whatever cab...
Just make sure you use a soft bulb seal. I had to redo my door seal and will have to redo my popup seal eventually because the seal is not compressible enough and makes things difficult to close. I ended up ordering the door seal straight from Lippert. They were good to deal with. Sold it by...
Just pondering camper tie down solutions and came across the 'stabil lift', I believe it's called.
This system uses the camper jacks to essentially clamp the camper to the truck frame. This makes the tie downs unnecessary. Big sacrifice here is ground clearance.
