GM fullsize AWD Van Info thread

I know you asked TeleSteve, but since I just did it I thought I could answer. The rear diff is shared with a lot of vehicles, so tons of options are available. There are parts available for the front diff, but options are limited. OEM style 2 cut R&P are not available for the front, and because...

GM fullsize AWD Van Info thread

I just completed re-gearing from 3.42 to 4.10 s yesterday and went for a quick test drive, just 13 miles all below 45 mph, very gentle. I'm on 265/75r16 rubber. I also put in a reman BW4473 because my transfer case was generally worn out, the viscous coupler was locked up, it had the original...

GM fullsize AWD Van Info thread

I'm 90% sure that all AWD Express Vans have the BW4473, the 4481 was only on the Escalade/Denali for a few years. Double check the build tag before you order parts, though it could be the same seal on both. I'm going to rebuild mine in the next week or two and can report back then. Just looking...

GM fullsize AWD Van Info thread

I've got a fleet mechanic with a couple decades worth of experience working on trucks and vans. When I ask that question his reply is that there is no good option, but that he has seen the least number of returns on replacement transmissions when they are sourced from the dealer. When I point...

Chevy Express AWD - Front Pinion seal leak

I have had this problem as well, about every 5-10k miles, but my van has over 270k on her. After the second time I stopped replacing the seal and just add a little gear oil every oil change. It is not hard to do if you have an 1/2" impact, 1/2" torque wrench, the right sockets, snap ring...

GM fullsize AWD Van Info thread

That is a big part of my motivation. I've got 3.42s in the diff, live in the mountains, and drive my van with a light offroad trailers to way out there camping spots. I have had whole offroad clubs an a ride stop to ask me "******?" deep in the canyons of Utah. I was originally looking at a...

GM fullsize AWD Van Info thread

I'm going to need a rebuild of my 4l60 in the near future and have been doing a fair amount of research on swapping in a 6l80. In theory it might be possible to do without losing any oem functionality, but definitely not cheap or easy. I've got it about 90% figured out. If even possible, it is...

If you have the the old school rectangular lights, the Rigid Truck-lite LED replacements are excellent. Low beams are bright with great cut-off, high beams are almost light-bar bright. One of the first things I did to my van and highly worth it if you are driving at night anywhere with wild life.

Eaglevo, did you also put Fox 2.0's for the front? How are they working for you? I've got the Bilsteins that most are using and finding the damping disappointing both on and off road. I had been talking to Ramsey about some Sprinter parts I was looking to get rid of and some new shocks for my...

GM fullsize AWD Van Info thread

I've got about 250k on mine, similar noises. An overlooked thing to check are the bushings that are between the cross member the torsion keys are inside of and the frame. If all other bushings check out, then it might be the trans. Pull the pan and check for metal. Clunking at shift in mine...

Old Blue, 2004 Chevy Express AWD 5.3 Build Thread

One thing to check on those UCAs... I've got Cognito UCAs for 1500 Silverado on my 08 awd van. Cognito includes a limiting strap. The down travel on the OEM setup is limited by a stop on the UCA that hits a fixed stop. With the tubular UCA's if you don't limit the down travel somehow the...

When you order your parts know that there are two sizes of brakes available for these vans. I'm not sure when the split happened, or if it is based on cargo vs passenger vans. I have an '08 cargo with the smaller brakes, but also have a 2014 passenger with bigger rotors and calipers at work...

Chevrolet Express Van - AWD to 4x4 conversion

Not sure what you mean by "tuning from a pickup" unless Blazen71 swapped the TCM and ECM from the donor truck (which would not work without a lot of work and some custom dealer programming) and I missed it. From what I have gathered from this thread and other sources the ECM/TCM programming on...

Chevrolet Express Van - AWD to 4x4 conversion

Wondering if you can answer a few more questions about this swap now that you have a few miles on it. I've got a 1500 awd that I am planning to 4wd when the TC finally dies. What trans in your van, 4L60e or 4L80e? Does the tranny shift correctly in 4lo? Was your VSS originally on the...

The Fun Hog Build Thread: 2007 Chevy Express AWD

Do a search for 3m Thinsulate van insulation. I bought mine off ebay from impactproducts. The seller is active on one the promaster and sprinter forums. Not the cheapest option, but seemed like the best thing going. Made a huge difference in how much my propex would run at a given temp. Also...

    Chevy vans for sale?

I might be selling a couple from my employer sometime soon that might fit your needs. A rwd 06 and a Quigley 4wd 08, I'd have to check but probably closer to 200k than 170k miles on them. They are both cargo's that were converted for use as wildlife tour vehicles, so they have sliding windows...

    1500 AWD Post-lift alignment?

Another note on these UCA's... With my OEM UCA's on and alignment essentially zero for all three specs my alignment cams were just about maxed out and equal on all 4 bolts. With the new UCA's installed the alignment cams are just about maxed out at +3 degrees of camber on one side of the van...

    1500 AWD Post-lift alignment?

Want to add a few things about the Cognito UCA's in case any one else stumbles on this thread. Cognito recommends using limit straps to avoid damaging the UCA's. It looks like the reason is that the droop stops will eventually dent the tubular arms. There isn't much room on the van to mount...

    1500 AWD Post-lift alignment?

I got a Fiberine 20" Bubble top, with sliding windows like a couple others out there. I went with new, cruising junkyards isn't a good option for me due to location. I'm always jealous when I read about you (and others) scoring parts, but that's the price you pay for living in paradise. I...

    1500 AWD Post-lift alignment?

I had some alignment issues on a trip Hole in the Rock road that resulted in cupping a tire pretty badly, and a parking lot alignment using knipex, vise grips, and the tiltmeter on my iPhone. When I go home I ordered up the cognito UCA's (thanks for the heads up), new cams, bolts, and pins. I...
