    Mercedes gearbox settings

Lots of folk don't understand 4x4 they think all 4 wheels drive at the same time! they do but not positively! Easy way to test it is, jack up any 1 wheel, with no switches pressed try to drive away, if it is working correctly the wheel will spin and you don't move (open centre diff) next jack up...

What awning do you have on your Vario or other high MB truck?

The caravan is too high to reach, it would be far too high on the vario at 3 metres.

What awning do you have on your Vario or other high MB truck?

I am still considering options for my Vario! the lower the awning the more effective it is. (wind or sun) I have a touring caravan as well, and I used to have an awning on it that you had to roll up manually, but I found it quite difficult to wind up tight enough to get it in to the sock...

    New Disco owner!

Regarding the cdl on the high / low lever, can you push it over to engage it? if not, the next thing to check is more difficult, but look under the motor on top of the transfer box, follow the linkage from the high / low lever on to the box, on top of the centre diff there may be a attachment ...

    VARIO TEMPATURE GAUGE

Can anyone tell me where the temperature gauge sits on the Vario while in normal running conditions ? Mine seems to be a little on the high side, although it has not shown any signs of overheating, so it may be a faulty sender! hopefully.:sunny::sunny::sunny::sunny::sunny:

    Vario 814 da exhaust brake

For the exhaust brake to work correctly, when you are going down hill, you need to be in the gear you would be to get up it! that means that it will be "revving like feck" (I am familiar with the terminology) also the larger the engine size the more efficient, I will often drive a truck for...

    WARNING LAMP

I have spoken to a guy at Mercedes and he said that you can not reset the ECU on the older vehicles. you can fit a resister on both side lamp circuits, one on each side! he recommended fitting one each side behind the head lamp. This will put the warning lamp out, but it will not function as...

    WARNING LAMP

Thanks Jostein, I had thought of doing that, as I have for the indicators, but does it still show up if a light goes out? I will try to speak to Mercedes, as I know you can reset the resistance on MAN trucks so maybe on Mercs too!

    WARNING LAMP

I have a warning lamp on the dash board of my Vario 814da, It is the orange light bulb failure warning! I have changed the rear lamps and side markers to LED so I assume that the resistance value needs to be reset. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this?

    Vario fuel tank

Does anyone know if it is safe or advisable to have an internal mounted diesel tank in a living area or would this just be a no go? Its not something that I would want to do, Legally, the fuel system must not be able to access the passenger compartment, it must have a separate compartment, as...

    Building a Composite Camper on a U1700 w/ 3 Way Tilt Bed

Some good points raised by Scotishpinz, Also what is the GVW of the Mog ? you probably have quite a margin for the build. My Vario came with a hydraulic winch that I removed because it was damaged, but I kept the pto and made a leveling system. I can see that height is an issue, but how much...

    Building a Composite Camper on a U1700 w/ 3 Way Tilt Bed

AKAdventurecpl. Your Idea seems good, why remove what you already have, that is tried and tested, although of course "weight" is always an issue to be watched. regarding the platform, why not strip out the heavy steel base and just leave a frame work. you can then have a box body made from...
