    SUV Purchase

a tahoe/yukon sounds like a good compromise. body on frame, 4x4 and very nice on the highway. a gx460 is also a good option, but quite a bit smaller. It really sounds like you need to reinvent your transportation on both sides? and, "driving once in a while" should not dictate the purchase...

    2013 Silverado 1500 Build Thread

i love the sliders. I wish there were more options for us 1/2 ton gm guys. very hard to find a nice, simple bumper/sliders/etc for the chevy, even harder for the GMC.

Trying to decide between PolyGuard Kinetic Recovery Rope and ARB 3 1/8 Recovery Strap

i like to pick up over one year old lifting straps at local industrial supply places. you can get a real lifting strap 4in and 20-30k lb rated for overhead (not breaking strength) for 20 or 30 bucks brand new. they can not be used in industry because they have "expired" and can not be retested.

    Blender, My LX450/FZJ80 + FJ45esk + GM + Land Rover crazy concoction

i have the same engine setup for a 72 wagoneer out of a 2011 truck, though i plan on using the GM manual shift transfer case out of a w/t 2500 that bolts up to the 6l90e and the 5.3 L. I am interested in what who is doing it / helping with your wire harness and computer programming. i love...

Solar charge controllers that can absorb at 14.8v. Let's make a list?

I think you need to meditate or do yoga or something. stress is a killer. Go with the view star or the suncharger. you wont get much more out of mppt unless you are using higher voltage panels. PWM will be just fine. ida: he is not interested in learning. no reason to add stress to his life.

    What is your favorite belt?

i find the TDU belts to be my favorite, having had them from blackhawk, condor and 5.11, the condor has the best buckle and the webbing is not fraying like the 5.11. I find condor and blackhawk and vertex to be better quality than 5.11. I have been wearing gear from all of them for years...

    DIY Fridge

sailboat guys often roll their own in small cabins. I would check out the marine forums. These are usually built into a hull locker or similar to save space and the need to mount the compressor somewhere specific.

need help cannibalizing a power supply

in my experience, you will want to run a voltage regulator to keep the lights working long term. the lm 317 should work for your needs and is very east to set up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LM317

2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 without Airbags

i have an 09 half ton with ride rite airbags, they have helped keep the truck stable with more weight than i should put in it... ~1000 sqf of hickory flooring 55 boxes! i put around 30 psi in them when I am using my 800 lb camper. they keep the truck much more stable while turning or driving...

2003 GMC Envoy rig (I know so not the typical rig)

The i6 is a very good engine. Only problem I have encountered is the short piston skirts can cause the rings to wear, but I'm not sure it's a common problem.

    TCTeardrop Offroad fun - Offroadsubaru

Why the complication of a relay block and not switch your loads directly? Surely the current of a few lights and the fridge is not too great to do it safely. A relay, in my mind, is best suited for isolating different power sources. ex: a solar system for powering all items on a camper and a...

    fullsize 8' roamin chariot

I have ride rite air bags. They help, but I don't think it's necessary. I ripped up some 2x6 and built a sled for it to sit on. I wired up the lights and things to the 7 blade trailer plug. The extra room underneath fits a table, and my maxtrax.

    fullsize 8' roamin chariot

i have the full size version of this and love it! this looks like the ranger size version. I had to raise mine up about 4 inches to get it over the bed rails of my 09 gmc 1/2 ton. They seem pretty well built. Aluminum side frames, and lots of 1x lumber. stapled and glued inside skin of 3/16...

    Soft Shells

I am a huge fan of outdoor research for soft shell, gloves, and hats. I get a lot of my outerwear at Sierra trading post at a big discount. Ebay is also a good place to go. I lost my favorite OR jacket ever while traveling, and found the same one on ebay for about half of retail, new with...
