Cooper STT, Wrangler MT/R, maybe something else?

I have been very pleased with the STT on my 03 Wrangler. My current set of STT's replaced two previous sets of MT/R's (non Kevlar) and I think they are a far superior tire. I have put 49k miles on the STT and am at 7/32's with a 5 tire rotation every 5k miles. Tire tires do great on pavement...

what do jeep guys like as a truck?

Comanche. Small, cramped and 100% Jeep. If you already feel comfortable overlanding in a Jeep, the MJ is the truck for you.

    HAM study guide

I got my Tech just over a month ago and found the test really simple. I read through the ARRL Tech book then went to QRZ.com and took all of the study tests for each concept. If you learn by memorization, you could simply take the online tests over and over to learn what the right answers are...

New (Old 1998) Jeep TJ - lift options

It has been my experience that death wobble is the result of one, two, or three things: - New components move used, or 'worn in', components out of their sweet spot. Think of it like this, adding new coils to a suspension system that has 170K miles on it. Over that 170K miles everything has worn...

    ATV thread

In 1999 I was a young lad who hadn't seen much outside of the typical tourist traps you visit on family vacation. I was then invited to spend a week exploring the Forest service roads of Colorado. I went to Colorado for 6 consecutive years exploring nearly 1,500 miles of Forest service roads via...

1986 Comanche | Project Heavy Four

Thank you for the kind words! :victory: It is time for a small update. The first trip for this rusty wonder is set for late Spring, destination: Ozark National Forest. This post will highlight two improvements to the truck, a raised air intake (because the truck rides relatively low) and an...

Wanting to install a 1inch body lift.

No. But, you may need to drill a few new holes in the plastic fan shroud to center it around the fan if you don't have a motor mount lift. I have had my Performance Accessories (PA) 1" body lift installed for 8 years, and I bought it used. No issues. Worked well to provide the needed tub...

What did you do to your Expo Jeep today?

I had the same problem with the Mad brackets on my Rubi 44. The brackets are actually for an 8.8 swap. I simply cut the smaller D44 radius into the brackets and still ended up with more than 7" of vertical separation. I added a bit of insurance (maybe assurance as well) to my 86.

    Official Cooper STT thread

I've been running STT's in LT315/75R16 on my TJ for 48K miles running a 5 tire rotation. As of today they measure 7/32" of tread. The tires are well worn but have maintained their good ride and low road noise characteristics. I've only had these tires balanced once at 40K miles of use. In fact...

1986 Comanche | Project Heavy Four

Welcome to the build thread, or write up if you will, of my 1986 Jeep Comanche Custom. When I drove half way through Iowa on December 3rd, 2011 to take a look at this “destined for scrap” truck, I never imagined I would be here, at Expedition Portal creating a post for it. The poor truck had...

    Sell me on a Jeep!

Rust. XJs like to rust. It is a sad truth. The rockers, lower door seam, front floor boards and floor near the front leaf spring perch. As mentioned before, avoid the Dana35 rear axle if possible. However, if the perfect XJ has a 35, don't be discouraged as a C8.25 is a simple swap. Either of...

    Getting Quotes for Powdercoating

The local powder coat outfit around here quotes $150 for the Rockhard sport cage but charges $110 if you wait for him to do a large group of stuff in black. Other colors and a quicker turn around time will run extra. $300 seems a bit steep, but might be the going rate in your area.
