The AC system is a unit designed and built by Proair out of Canada that is sold by a company called Undermount AC.

You can even spec the system...
Oh nothing proprietary about it.
We just route a pattern into some plywood and lay some pex in it.
We then use a diesel water heater from Webasto (or maybe it was Espar) to warm it all up.
Several places sell the heaters or you can even get one from Aliexpress if you are trying to be frugal...
Oh dang I almost forgot!
The owner of the shop also has a brewery/taproom right next door to the shop
So occasionally we call it a day a little early and go nab a beer.
Well, I started typing this long-winded approach to explain the significance of my move to Colorado and the job that came with it but, as it was with the basic premise to that story, my attention span or lack thereof got the best of me and forced me down another path.
Please allow me to give...
Not real sure of the brand but if I recall it was about $400 new and has never been used
Was purchased for a van build and ended up going with a different tank due to space constraints.
I didn't think to get any of the dimensions when I took the pics but if you need them just ask.
It is...
Unfortunately not a lot has happened lately.
I don't know if I mentioned it in this thread or not but we are working on moving to Colorado real soon so I have primarily been working on house stuff so we can get it listed.
Realistically I don't think I will have time to get it running before...
Wow Apparently it's been a minute since I have updated this thread.
I guess now is the time.
It does not look like I've done a whole lot but what I have done took some head scratching and a couple iterations.
I will skip most of the trial and error bits and get to the finished parts.
I...
I saw these things and some trucks that were similar all over in Montreal when I was there in 2019.
Every time I saw them I wondered why I did not seem them much in the states and thought how great they would be for an adventure rig.
Dang 60 yards?
I have three 8kw units set up to heat my garage and, even running full bore with no mufflers, I barely hear them once I get about 30 feet out.
Of course I live in town so ambient noise probably does a pretty good job of drowning out some noise.
I do like the idea of putting a...
Burley is a good place for some Syncro parts
https://burleymotorsports.net/
If you are looking to have a trans rebuilt, Matt Steedle in New Jersey is the guy to talk to no matter what you want done.
It would be simple enough to put a transfer case and a front axle in most step vans I suppose and maybe a lot less work but I kind of like the idea of making things a bit more modern.
Would be super cool to swap some interior parts so you have some extra safety features like air bags but that...
Naturally everyone wants a 4x4 Sprinter or new AWD Transit van.
Obviously, not everyone has the kind of budget to buy one and then spend many more kilodollars building out the interior for life on the road.
That got me thinking about other ways to take an existing platform (or maybe a couple)...
A friend of mine made me an offer I could not refuse on this gem.
99 Tacoma 2.7l 5 speed with 234,000 miles on the odometer.
Here are a few lame shots in my driveway as I have not had it long enough to go get any real pics somewhere cool.
I have the Kaisers on a mk4 Jetta.
It's been stripped down a little bit and might weigh 2800lbs or so.
I will say if you decide on them pay attention to the treadwear rating.
While its not a perfect indicator of a tires grip it will give you some idea of the tires compound and how sticky it...
I would definitely give them a shot.
I have used Kenda Bicycle tires, Motorcycle tires and recently just bought some sticky street tires (Kenda Kaiser KR20A for anyone that cares) for a car that I regularly take to all the twisty roads in the southeastern US.
Not a single one of them has...
Well crap guys and gals I have my work cut out for me.
My wife and I will be moving to Colorado in March and I need to get this thing running and driving at the very least.
We will have a garage at the new place but it would be ideal if the van could be driven under it's own power to make...
If I were doing the R2.8 swap I would not be running any of the VW drive train.
I envisioned a more modern and easily attainable trans and transfer case where adapters already exist for the Cummins.
Heck I would probably also swap axles while I was at it.
Well ya hafta be honest with yourself.
How much hard core wheeling do you do?
Heck how much actual off roading do most overlanders do that's anything other than some gravely two track
For me its not much.
A good set of all terrains on some 17s work real nice on the road but you still have a...
Well don't know if it has come up yet but I just saw a thing that Mule and Mitts have teamed up to bring the trays and canopies to the US.
https://dasmule.com/
Wow that's crazy to see all those busted frames.
For the most part I tend to agree with most of the opinions on here.
I would never plop 2500lbs in the back of my dinky Tacoma.
I plan to make my tray from aluminum but I also do not plan on carrying anything more than I would otherwise carry...
