    Fuso/NPS vs Landcruiser

in FG649 at 80 km/hr I get about 16.5 l/100km, at less than 30 km/hr I recently got about 1000 km out of 120 litre tank - 12.3 l/100km. 4wd in sand pushes it above 18 l/100km, has been as high as 20. 4.5 tonne. Big difference between LC and Canter is space, payload, and forward control. I...

Got a Fuso. It was sweet. Then it broke.

just a thought .... are all the tyres the same size / warn by same amount? Or was the snow soft enough but became packed under the wheels. It occurs to me that the hubs and diff may have been functioning as designed but different rotation between front and rear surfaced at the weakest point...

    Suspension Seats - Cheaper options?

just Australian Design Rules (ADRs). Two main aspects for seats and seat belts are height available above squab and chain of fasteners to body, particularly area and thickness of "plate" and bolt sizes/strength. There's a system of engraved "modification plates" attached to the body and recorded...

    Suspension Seats - Cheaper options?

I describe my stratos as "best of a bad lot", the whole seat (squab and back) move up and down, adjustable tension springs in the back. Which is quite different to the rubber bands under the seat of the baja ... I've failed to find a useful explanation of what is meant by "suspension".

Big insurance problem- I needs some help

Alessie is a Dutch insurer familiar and competent with international insurance. They supplied us with European "green card" insurance which included former soviet union (and Russia IIRC) for our Australian registered vehicle. They can insure in US. http://www.alessie.com/ Hope this isn't...

    Trail Worthy Fab

just out of interest I measured outer edge of 285x19.5 front track with ATW reversible singles. About 1935mm vs your 2100. Just for comparison. Outside dimension of my box is 2100. Don't forget flares for the wheel arch, lest the rear view mirrors get dirty.

don't forget the thickness of the centre of the rim. I think its called the thickness of the disc in Mitsi drawings. Put another way, the mounting face of the rim is different if rim is reversed for front/rear. Or, from the above, the offset is different for the same rim depending on which face...

    GPS- navigation unit or iPad?

probably getting off topic .... here's some sand samples from the desert, aligned relative to where they were found. The origin of the sand is in the south (at least its deposited there by an intermittent creek system), it moves north, oxidising (and becoming darker) along the way. There are two...

    GPS- navigation unit or iPad?

for the non-Australians ....... Australia is a big country with population very urbanised and concentrated round the edges. There's a big portion called "outback". About the size of US with about 1/10 th the population. Lots of arid country and desert in the middle. The 14,500 km ring road is...

depends where you are headed ... wikicamps and apparently sygic apps on an android thing. wikicamps to find the camps, sygic gps to get directions. I haven't tried Sygic. The further from coastal Aus the more useful Hema becomes, the less useful conventional gps. I have Hema maps on...
